I like to use Ebay to purchase antiquarian books from the U.S. and Internationally. I live in Canada.
This year on my Christmas wish list I asked my family to give me Ebay gift cards. Which they did.
Happily I took my cards to my computer to enter them into my account as a credit only to find that there is no such thing on Ebay. So I held onto my cards and when a book came up that I wanted to buy I entered my redemption code only to be notified that I cannot use my gift card outside of Canada. Nearly all my book purchases have been from the U.S.. Nowhere on this card, or anywhere that I could find on Ebays website, could I find anything indicating that these cards could not be used outside of Canada. Although the gift card does state that I must have a U.S. Paypal account to use them. Tell me if that makes any sense at all. These gift cards are misleading and a huge disappointment. I will try to help Ebay by posting this issue on my Facebook account to warn others of this unadvertised restriction on these gift cards.

Out of curiosity, where were these eBay gift cards purchased? Have purchased a competitors card and had no issues.

Can you give this lad any advice?
All I can think of is a freight forwarding service like those used by Russian and Japanese buyers.

They were gifts from family and purchased somewhere in the Vancouver area.
The seller of the book I was trying to buy was 5 hours from here in Oregon.

Tyler-- who I pinged above-- is an actual eBay employee who answers many questions for us and is in touch with the techies too.
We are all pretty sure he is human. ()
He's probably not at work right now, unless we have been fooled by our robot overlords again, but may be able to answer you in the morning.

Have you tried signing into your ebay account through ebay dot com?

also keep in mind, if these are ebay .ca gift cards, and your seller doesn't ship to canada. then your cards will never work, because you can't buy from the seller..

"I will try to help Ebay by posting this issue on my Facebook account to warn others of this unadvertised restriction on these gift cards. "
I would advise you to wait until you get resolution on the issue before doing so. I suspect there is a glitch at work here, or the gift cards are somehow faulty. However, I am confident that Tyler can help you understand what is wrong and how to fix it. He's been tagged and will no doubt be here during regular business hours.
Hang tight until then.

Thanks for the tag @femmefan1946! Definitely promise I'm human, or as near a product as the resources of eBay can approximate. 😛
Hi @keepingspirit - that's an overall really frustrating situation! I can confirm that you are able to use eBay Gift Cards to purchase on eBay.ca, eBay.ca.fr and eBay.com. You do need to have a registered shipping address located in Canada, which I imagine you have on file already, but just want to get it out there.
I'm going to report this further, but I need some more information from you. Would you please keep an eye out for an email from me requesting additional detail so I can get that to the right team? Thanks!
