As per a google search for the subject. Pre Announcement
eBay doesn't support a buyer exemption system for Canada-based buyers. However, there are some ways to avoid or reduce taxes on eBay purchases: - First Nations buyers: Apply for a rebate to the CRA on exempt purchases.
- Provincial exemptions: Go to the respective tax authority for a refund.
- Tax-exempt buyers: Provide eBay with documentation to prove that you are tax-exempt. You can use the eBay tax exemption tool to verify and manage your tax-exempt status.
- Review state-by-state requirements: You can review state-by-state requirements for tax-exempt applications on mytaxhack.com.
Here's some other information about taxes on eBay purchases:
- Listing prices on eBay.ca are exclusive of GST/HST/QST/PST, where applicable.
- Applicable taxes may be added at checkout.
- Buyers are responsible for paying import charges.
If you offer international shipping, you can't include import costs in the item's purchase and shipping price.
- Let international buyers know this in your listings.

There have been questions to Revenue Canada asking if businesses could opt out. Basically no. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Has anyone noticed if transactions are having taxes removed correctly when it was applicable to do so? From recent personal observations, larger chains seem to have gotten it correct. Smaller businesses it has been a nightmare with tinkering required.
