Really need Advise Please

I recently brought a designer bag on eBay, The bag is 100 percent fake. Does not look like the real one and I compared real vs fake. Seller is saying its real. But I know it's not.

The seller listed saying they were in Toronto, but when it was shipped email said it was coming from China. I emailed the seller and they told me to send it back but to Liberia.

My question is should I wait until Saturday and let eBay get involved? I don't really feel comfortable with the whole thing. Got an email from eBay saying sender cannot send a return label. The address they gave me to send the package cannot be found on google. I'm also scared address is not where the seller is and it will go to a random country.

I've never ordered from eBay before so I don't really know what to do. Any advice is welcome.

Thanks for the tag @pjcdn2005 - yes, if the seller is providing the return shipping they are able to stipulate the location it is returned to via message or in the return details.

If a seller approves the return in a situation where they are responsible for return shipping and they do not do so, the buyer is still able to ask eBay to step in and help after the appropriate amount of time has passed.

Since the seller is no longer a registered user, buyers should contact CS directly to see if the waiting time period can be overridden. In this case I've referred it for a review to the proper team and @stema_5441  should be getting an email with more details shortly.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and I hope that helps clear things up!

Re: Really need Advise Please

I can understand why you are uncomfortable but there are a few things you should do to show eBay that you are willing to return the bag.  The seller is still responsible for paying return shipping even though they can’t send you a label and that money should be collected before you pay for the label otherwise you may not be compensated.

You need to figure out how much shipping with tracking will be to the address that the seller gave to you and let the seller know so that they can send you the money through PayPal.  If the bag is going to Liberia you would probably have to send it with International air but confirm with the post office that it will have delivery confirmation to Liberia with that method.  Do not use surface or small packet air as the first one will take months and the 2nd doesn’t have delivery confirmation. Chances are that when the seller finds out how much it will cost to return  ($90+) is that they will either refund you without a return or ignore you  in which case you will have to contact eBay. NOTE:  If the value of the bag + shipping was $850+ you will also need signature confirmation and I’m not sure what method that would require.

Trinton (or you?) said on the US board that if the seller was paying for return shipping they could have the buyer ship anywhere they choose and that thebuyer would still be covered if they sent to an address given in messages rather than the return address in the listing. Can you confirm that?

2.  If the seller approves the return but does not send shipping money to the buyer, will the ask ebay to step in link come up or will the buyer have to phone ebay?

Re: Really need Advise Please

Frankly a 'designer bag' that was shipped from China* is undoubtedly a fake.

Many companies have their designs made in China, but they are then shipped to the company in the West, not sold from the factory door.

Since you have received the bag, you have 30 days to open an Item Not As Described dispute in the Resolution Centre at the bottom of this page.

The first suggestion is to Contact the Seller.

You did that.

Move immediately to thee next step which is to ask eBay to step in and Escalate to a Claim.

The seller either refunds you, or sends you return postage and refunds when they get it back**, or they do neither and eBay refunds you before going after the scammer seller for their money.

Got an email from eBay saying sender cannot send a return label.

Whoever sent that email, it wasn't eBay.

The seller is required to send return postage***, not a return shipping label.

should I wait until Saturday and let eBay get involved?

No.

Open the Dispute immediately.

You are covered by eBay's Money Back Guarantee for 30 days from delivery.

You are further covered by Paypal's Buyer Protection Program for 180 days from payment.

And you are probably also covered by the chargeback policy of the credit card I hope you use to back your PP account.

Keep us informed.  We busybodies Boardies are here to help.

*And Liberia?  Fake fake fake fakety fake fake.

** The return postage should cover Air Mail and Tracking. The tracking is absolutely necessary. NEVER return a disputed item without tracking.

*** This can be done using Paypal's Send Money service.

Re: Really need Advise Please

Thank you for the tips.

Seller now removed his account from eBay and I tried to contact them and I get please try again later top up. The address they gave me does not make sense and address listed on their account was Toronto Ontario, but they want it shipped to Liberia. Also, it said to have it arrive by April 10th, there is no way that can happen due to a place where it is. I feel that Seller put a random place and they will say it didn't arrive and address is fake.

I tried to have eBay step in, but when I go to the resolution and cases pages, it's empty and email say's it won't be open until April 6.

@stema_5441

Seller now removed his account from eBay and I tried to contact them and I get please try again later top up. T

No.

It takes months for a seller to close his account, because eBay has to allow time for Disputes to close and the financial aspects of selling to complete.

EBay closed the account when they noticed his scamming.

email say's it won't be open until April 6.

That email does not come from eBay if the fake purse has already been delivered.

You have 30 days from delivery to open a Dispute.

Go to the Resolution Centre at the bottom of this page.

But since tyler@ebay has passed your problem on to the eBay team, you should talk to them first.

Do NOT let the 30 day deadline pass. Put it on your calendar.
