eBay e-mailed agreement vs Pay Pal Money Back Guarantee agreement

So Money Back Guarantee agreement are different now between Americans and Canadians ?

Or has it been always different

So as Canadians we get  (45 days) 15 days more than Americans (30 days)  in regards to  Money Back Guarantee agreement ?

I got this e-mail eBay agreement e-mailed to me about 2 days ago. They are meant for Americans right ?

So since Canadians deal with Pay Pal for  Money Back Guarantee Is it that we can ignore this message from eBay?-

eBay Money Back Guarantee. We have introduced this section to reflect the intended introduction of the eBay Money Back Guarantee to eBay.ca. The policy sets out timelines for buyers and sellers when an item isn’t received or isn’t as described in the listing. A case must be opened no later than 30 days after actual (or latest estimated) delivery date. Remedies may vary if an item isn’t as described depending on seller response and may include a refund upon return to seller. If we determine that an item wasn't successfully delivered, we refund the full cost of the item and original shipping to the buyer's PayPal account. The seller would be required to reimburse us for the amount.

PayPal  Money Back Guarantee. are for Canadians, right ?

I saw this PayPal regulations-

Buyers must raise a dispute within 45 days of a single PayPal payment for the full price of the item. If no satisfactory response is received from the seller, a claim must be filed within 20 days of raising the dispute.

Thanks

Re: eBay e-mailed agreement vs Pay Pal Money Back Guarantee agreement

The Americans already have the Money Back Guarantee program but Canada doesn't. The email was to announce that we will soon have it here. I'm not sure if Canadians will still be able to file through Paypal if they chose to do so...I would think that they would be.

"The Americans already have the Money Back Guarantee program but Canada doesn't."

Here again I am a bit confused about that.

According to eBay.ca staff (Fall Update thread) Canadian sellers listing on eBay.com are currently subject to the Money Back Guarantee program if the transaction takes place on eBay.com... or did I miss something (again)?

"Unfortunately a lot of details you are asking for have yet to be locked down and as previously stated, we will make the full announcement on that policy very soon. For now, here is what I can tell you:

eMBG is already effective on eBay.com and launches in CA at a date TBA."

If not, one would think an American buyer, purchasing on eBay.com with the understanding his purchase is protected by eBay Money Back Guarantee, would be pretty and rightfully upset to find out his purchase is not protected because the seller ships from Canada.

Re: eBay e-mailed agreement vs Pay Pal Money Back Guarantee agreement

The coverage time is an apples and oranges thing.

eBay.ca will be basing on delivery date, paypal is basing on payment date.

eBay Money Back Guarantee.

PayPal  Money Back Guarantee

Buyers must raise a dispute within 45 days of a single PayPal payment ...

So why they don't they make things easier so that all the rules and regulations that apply to Money Back Guarantee in ebay.ca be the same as ebay.com ? And same customer service to be applied to both Canada and U.S.A..
if there actually is any customer service on E-Bay.ca ?
They should have done this a long time ago.

Re: eBay e-mailed agreement vs Pay Pal Money Back Guarantee agreement

It doesn't matter which site the item was listed on. The buyer is protected by the buyer protection plan on the site that they purchase the item on.....in other words...the  site that they were signed in to when they were shopping.

If a U.S. buyer purchases an item on .com from a Canadian seller, the seller has to follow the rules of whichever buyer protection plan is being used on .com regardless of where the item was originally listed. That is stated in the International Selling Policies and that rule has been around for a while.    http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/international-selling.html

Keep in mind that the MBG program has been available on ebay.com for a while so any U.S. buyer that has made a claim in the last year or so would likely have filed through the MBG.  (they also had the option of filing through Paypal)   The difference will be that once the new update kicks in on .com, a buyer who purchases an item on .com and opens a claim for an item not as described will be entitled to receive free return shipping. It doesn't matter where the item was originally listed. If a Canadian buyer or someone from any country makes a purchase while signed into .com, they will also be covered by that same buyer protection plan.

I'm not certain when the new update starts on .com. It could be Sept 15th but I could be wrong.

But ebay will need to have worked out how the international return shipping cost is going to be figured out before the update is live.

Does that help at all? I try to not to be wordy but I'm not very good at that. Smiley Happy

The same money back guarantee program will be on both sites within the next couple of months.

Americans and Canadians may still be able to file a claim through Paypal. When I asked about that the rep wasn't sure.

if there actually is any customer service on E-Bay.ca ?

There is no specific customer service department for .ca. Both .com and .ca users phone the same place. If the question is .ca specific, it is better to ask your question here as the phone reps are not always familiar with the differences.

There is a weekly board session on Wednesdays at 1 p.m eastern time and there are Canadian reps there that should be able to answer Canadian specific questions.

Re: eBay e-mailed agreement vs Pay Pal Money Back Guarantee agreement

One upside is that if an international buyer purchases on a site with a buyer protection plan that does not have support seller paid return shipping, then we won't have to pay for the return shipping. I'm not sure which sites that would include right now but I imagine that eventually, they will all have the same MBG program.
