Well the one thing no one wants to do is translate the quote and I sense it is because the quote is segregational when you really look at it. If there was a Muslim quote or a Hindu quote that told people to stay away from others I would have the same opinion because it is based on prejudice no matter where it comes from. Is it wrong to stand up and say "I believe this quote says this"....or is it just that it's your biblical quote and you don't like anyone challenging it?

Telling people to stay away from others because of simply what they believe, or who they are by creed is like West Side Story without a book as some sort of false rationalization .....but the same gang mentality.....part of what causes so much pain and hatred in this world.....always has and it seems will continue to do so while being held up with fanatical reverence by the followers.

I'm not making my opinion because one certain person posted it....I would have done the same no matter who posted it....even you. You can believe that or not I don't particularly care. And make no mistake.....just like the long post about pagans and witches that was put into the thread and was not asked for by anyone .....she does it because she knows I'm reading all the threads so she posts something she knows I will respond to.....then she gets what she really wants which is ......all your posts.;-) It would be no different than if I knew Bob liked Chevys and I did posts saying that people shouldn't buy them and to stay away from anyone who liked Chev's.....I know Bob will read the posts and I'll get the reaction sooner or later. If you want to talk about 'baiting'....make no mistake at how well she does it herself....and you fell for it hook, line and sinker. Me, well I know it's baiting.

Your soul is in your keeping alone. When you stand before your god you cannot say I was told by others to do thus, or that virtue was not convenient at that time.

This will not suffice……… Remember that.

Is this a quote? Where is it from? What does it mean?
Who says there is a soul? How do you determine that?

First come first served. I was still interested in the translation of the quote that started all this.

Tickle in post 192 said my estimation of the quote was incorrect but failed to give a reply as to the translation. A copy and paste reply was given in post 198 as to the translation but in post 200 I posted a link that shows it can be translated depending on which bible or person you are talking to…..hence no definitive translation for all to see. After that it was just condemnation that I had the audacity to ask for a translation in the first place.

Based on the reply of post 198 it seems that lets say hypothetically a couple meets and falls in love….however they are of different beliefs…..or two business people have different beliefs……then one should not ‘yoke’ oneself to the other person because they are not Christian. (I believe this is what it says). So it seems to me that this is religious segregation based on religion…..no matter how much love you have for the person. To me it sounds a lot like parents of a certain nationality, or colour telling their children to not associate with anyone who is not the same as who they are. Sad really in my personal estimation.

Exactly what I was attempting to do (ahem) tom. But first one must be allowed to ask a question without attacks.

Asked and answered.

Here, in Post 198 you have mother quoting the dictionary, saying anyone who doesnt have her beliefs is painful and counterproductive to her.

I'm not your mother. And I said no such thing. I quoted a Biblwe passage. Your assumptions are your own.

Psalm 23:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest [2] my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Asked and answered.

Yes but not discussed. Is the one answer the correct one? I do hope not because this would mean segregation based on religion.

Not directed at me because I never made the previous comment.

No one I noticed. I have no idea what that meant.

then one should not ‘yoke’ oneself to the other person because they are not Christian

that's your interpretation *cat. unbelievers could simply mean you don't believe in the same thing (although that is a stretch!) when my husband and I got engaged, we were actually quoted that verse and both of us were raised Adventists and all because he's white and I'm brown - supposedly we would have opposing cultures. just goes to show - love transcends all. It doesn't mean at all that we do not socialize with others who have different beliefs or convictions - it would be a very lonely place for me because I don't drink alcohol, smoke, dance, eat pork, seafood, or worship on Sunday. As I've said before, my husband goes to work on Saturdays. I believe that verse to admonish one 'in as much as possible - don't' - because it is very difficult to walk your faith when you're standing alone - so it's easier to be with those who believe likewise - one of the major reasons why Seventh-day Adventists have their own education system.

For a couple of people who claim they don't put any substance on the validity of the Bible, that it's just unreliable & contradictory junk put together by common men, why do you worry so much about what is quoted on this forum. One thread is all we ask for - there IS a back button. Along the same idea, why should we put stock in anything else cut & pasted on to a thread from books written by mere men. Do you like to lurk in here just to see if you can trip us up on yet another contradiction???

I like that on this thread we can praise God, post encouragement for each other, and pray for each other. I pray even more so for those who post on this thread - just one of those things Christians do for each other. We are also told in Luke 6: 27But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Cat with respect to the "unevenly yoked" verse, I agree with Julie that it is often used in the context of warning Christians to not marry outside of the faith since each partner will have things that are important to them but only one of them will place an importance on Godly things.

That is not to suggest that the other one will be a bad influence, but will simply put their emphasis on things other than the Bible and a personal relationship with God. Ralph

Nathan Bedford Forrest said the same thing …
'bad company is the ruin of good character”. I guess they are all cut from the same cloth, even use the same religious book, but wear different disguises.

I read another site Ralph that also considered it as not associating with people even in business who are of different religious views. To me, this and marriage is only increasing division which is the food for fanatics and hate mongers. People can have their beliefs and still exist together as well as even do business together. I am not a divisionist....I am a person who believes in all people respecting each others beliefs as long as those beliefs have good purpose. Segregation has never been of good purpose.
