I received this note from the husband of a customer in Hamilton, Ontario this morning. Please could God's people bring the needs of this dear family before the throne of Grace in earnest prayer and pass on to any prayer circles. The wife's first name is Carey. Thank you in The Lord's name.

message as follows:

I am very sorry I have not responded, but my wife who actually orders these items is in the hospital. We just lost our baby girl alittle over 2 weeks ago and my wife has taken a turn for the worst. If you could leave this with me and I will talk to her, but by looking at the name fairies, I know she was decorating our daughters room in fairies. Thankyou for your patience. OK...saw this preacher on Larry King named Joel Osteen...never heard of him until this show...leads a very large congregation in Texas...

Anyway, his main thrust is wealth...riches...God wants you to be rich...blah blah blah....

I've seen abit of this guy on the tube. I liked his positive message. Why would God not want to bless his followers? I know the sun doesn't shine everyday but I like what I saw.

I guess it all depends on what kind of "blessings" a person is seeking. I'm not rich... but there is food on my table... a roof over my head. I feel very blessed!

Magic--prayers for Adam and his wife.

I've heard Joel Olsteen preach on a few occasions and I like the way he comes across -- genuinely caring. That being said, however, any preacher that places too much emphasis on "material" blessings (as opposed to spiritual blessings) is going to eventually have a problem explaining this concept to his flock when some of them don't receive the material wealth that he promises. His only recourse would then be to contend that there is something wrong with their faith -- not devout enough, don't believe enough, aren't committed enough -- in short, blaming the person for their own financial misfortune. That would definitely turn me right off if it happened to me and I wouldn't keep attending that church for very long.

Another preacher that does this to an excessive degree is Creflo "Dollar" (yes, that's supposed to be his real name and he certainly wears it well). He really turns me off when he preaches about money, flashing his diamond rings and expensive suits & watches. Funny thing is if you study the New Testament, Jesus talks a great deal about the evils that can result from an excessive love of money but these preachers never speak about that.

I've never seen a TV evangelistic show that eventually didn't get down to asking for money sooner or later. I actually called two 'prayer lines' a couple of years ago and one directly asked for money and after that I got about 6 months of advertising and sales items sent to me in the mail. The other didn't ask for money but for a year I got sales pitches in the mail. I might as well have called Avon.

True enough Prior, but I suppose they all need to have funds coming in to support their ministries -- air time on t.v. can be quite expensive.

What I object to is the ones that promise you wealth beyond your wildest dreams if you contribute to them. Unless your brain is permanently fried, you just know that only a small minority of the listeners will ever see that kind of money in their lifetime. Some of these ministries have now started to sell little tubes of "miracle water" and green "magic prayer cloths" that are supposed to contain a special "anointing" to attract cash to you or heal whatever ails you. And to rub salt into the wound, they prance around flashing their clothes & jewellery and some of them even show pictures of their lavish homes & private airplanes!

However, some of the ministries do a better job of asking for funds and come across as more humble and down-to-earth but I do agree that once they get your address ..... you may never hear the end of it.

I got sent a prayer cloth from one of the 'lines' I called.....I think it was a 'teaser' or in marketing what is called a 'lost leader'. Nice cloth. Put a great shine on my boots.

:^O OH, so that's you're supposed to do with those cloths? Maybe you should try wearing those boots to the casino or to the bingo -- they might have magically transformed into "lucky boots" that attract cash!

LOL....actually I did today and it attracted 565.00 worth of cash. Hummmmmmmmmmmmm maybe I should order more.]:) But….then again it may have been the sacred Kiwi bird on the can of polish?
