Nikki...I went back to work Monday and Tuesday night. I think I am getting too old for 12 hour nightshifts. 😞
It seems to be taking me too long to recover from being on 'holidays'.

I too have quite the collection of cups and saucers...but mine all have thistles on them. (I must have upwards of 30ish....nearly all different). Only problem is I have no china cabinet. (Although Barky has the most gorgeous curved glass front antique one, so I know they eventually will have a 'home'). 😉

TOB--I felt so sorry for nurses and those 12 hour shifts. The RN's used to let some of the other nurses sleep in the rec room on slow nights, but they didn't nap themselves.

Thistles? That is interesting. You just saying that took me back to my grandparents home--Scots of course so I have several thistle pins, and a thistle vase but what a great idea--thistle cups and saucers. Do you have a favourite, and if you do, who is the maker?

Squid - the cup/saucer is a ship design by Aynsley - there is one like it (mine is red) on eBay - item # 170148527085 .

TOB - am I missing something here?

Nancy--great tea cup!!! I love Aynsley, but don't know much about it. Is it that the cup is rare, or is it that it is such a beautifully done ship, or is it the signature--or all of the above that make it so valuable.

Oops, I think I know. I just showed DH and he said bid on it! No, it is too rich for my blood, but if it has a ship on it, DH will buy it if I don't watch him. Luckily he doesn't know how to bid on ebay.

You tea cups all sound lovely, just not a collector here but you'd think I was since I have plenty from both grandmothers. I used to display them but my husband and kids took up indoor sports and broke two. They are packed away until I can safely display them.

TOB I saw a very pretty way to display them once in a store where they had them all hanging downwards tied to a thick pretty ribbon, wish I had taken a picture. Anyone else see something like that?

Hi Christine--that ribbon sounds like a nice way to display the cups. Mine are all packed away too--but every once in awhile, when the world seems mean, I bring them all out and enjoy looking at them. I love china, and have a big of a problem (!) getting rid of any it. I love it all.

I will try to check the e-mail. My computer turned off by itself three times yesterday so I am using hubby's and it is not set up like mine. I am worried that mine may be over heating so will take it over to the repair place on the weekend. Hubby wants to buy me a new one, however I want to change the counter in the kitchen, get the cupboards painted and change the window coverings so I am trying to to be good. The most annoying thing is that I am still too tired to go out and work and I have been getting phone calls for contracts recently. I would love to be able to do a short contract cause then I could really change the kitchen!

My mum is a Scot (I was born in England). The older I get the more I am being 'drawn back' to my roots. I have a lovely thistle tattoo on my back (It's the hidden rebel in me!)

Cats1953: What a lovely cup/saucer set. I have a few by Aynsley too that I love dearly -- they have scenery on them and come with either a white, blue or yellow background.

Christine--my security stops me. I don't understand, but DS will be here for American Thanksgiving and I will ask him what I should do. He put all the security on when I got a bug.

Lucie--that is a nice pattern. Is there a special name for the shape of the saucer? The pattern with different backgrounds colors, do they also have the green rims and do they have the same shape saucer as the one in that auction?

Nikki: If there is a special name for the shape of the saucer, I'm not aware of it -- I just call it "fluted" I guess. Some of the sets also have a plain saucer, without the fancy edging. The one in the auction is the first one I've seen with the green edging -- the ones I have don't have it. Some of the cups are also different, depending on the set. Some are just plain but mine have a fluted rim to match the saucer.

I know that the Shelley china has sets in the same shape as the Aynsley, with the fluted edge. Shelley calls theirs the "dainty" shape.
