Hi Christine, TOB and Marion,

I went for a 35 minute walk this morning - does that count? I am going to try to start lifting light weights in the next couple of weeks - I want my old arms back!

Marion, I thought that your post last night was very well done. Christine re your e-mail, my computer is in the shop so I am having trouble trying new things on hubby's machine. Hubby uses this one for work so has put extra security on it and I don't want to 'fix' anything for him.

Prayeres needed for my mum again....

She spent the night in emerg after coughing up blood. They don't think it is related to her lung cancer (which they tell her is no longer there 😄 ), but they have scheduled her for a bronchoscopy on Thursday just to see what is going on 'down there'. My sister says mum is scared to death.

I spoke with her on the phone this morning and she is in an absolute 'state'. She was upset and crying because her house was a 'tip' and she had no groceries for when she has company. I asked who the company was and she cried....YOU! (I am going there in 10 days for 2 weeks to relieve my sister who is going to disneyland with her family.) She is almost beside herself over this. I told my sister I would pay to have molly maid come in for an afternoon but I know my mum well and she would need to clean before the cleaning lady came in (I would too for that matter.)

*sigh*....

I'm feeling pretty useless and helpless....:_|....(and tough_old_birds aren't suppose to feel this way!)

Aaawww, I'm so sorry to hear this. It sounds like your Mom might be displacing her fear of the bronchoscopy onto worrying about her house, because it's something she feels she can manager better. Will keep your Mom in my prayers and sending you big hugs as well. I'm sure things will settle down some once the test is over and you can get down there to help her out.

So sorry she is frightened. She has been so brave, she sure doesn't need this. I understand though, anytime I have an unexplained bruise, I have to take a deep breath and calm myself--it isn't always easy.

Will definitely be thinking of her, and your family on Thursday.

Christine, your zest and enthusiasm lift my spirits. What energy you have!

MLM--if you are around, I just read a piece of yours about your convictions that was just awesome!! I would give the exact name of the piece but as we know, this is not always a safe place and I am not sure you would want me to to it. Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it.

Spent the day digging a new bed for the lavender I keep in pots, re-potting some roses, gathering the porcelain pots and washing them--generally closing down 1/2 of the deck--we hope to squeeze in one more big bbq. Next week I leave for a few days and want it done before I leave so DH doesn't try to do it all himself. He loves to help others, but can't ask for help for himself.

Off to feed DD's cats. Hope everyone is having a very good evening.

Has the Devil made primetime? Couldn't resist posting this one!

The Devil Comes to Television

French poet Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) wrote, “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he doesn’t exist.” If that’s true, I think maybe the second greatest trick Satan ever pulled was convincing the world that he is simply a joke.

I fear that many people in our nation believe Satan to be either a hoax or to not exist at all. But the Bible describes Satan as our “adversary” who is as “a roaring lion” who walks about “seeking whom he may devour” (I Peter 5:8).

This hardly casts him as a source for laughs.

However, that is the new image of Satan we are often seeing.

In fact, tonight (September 25) the CW Television Network will premiere a new series titled, “Reaper,” in which a young man on his 21st birthday learns that his parents sold him to the devil at his birth. And now, as a form of reimbursement, he must work for Satan.

His job? To be Satan’s “bounty hunter,” capturing souls that have “escaped from hell” and returning them there. To complete his missions, Satan gives the young man a “vessel hand-crafted in the bowels of Perdition by the iniquitous and vile.”

Described as a “charmingly offbeat” comedy by TV Guide, the show certainly departs from the biblical depiction of Satan.

I find it troubling that many in our nation are being duped into believing that Satan is a source of comedy. The problem is that if we believe Satan to be a mere punch line, then the Bible cannot be true and Jesus Christ must be a liar.

That’s the bottom line in such a scenario.

So we, as Christians, must determine how to confront and address issues that cast aspersions on the very core of our faith.

After reading about “Reaper” and watching a preview of it online, I began to contemplate a great Bible passage in which the Apostle Paul appears before King Agrippa. It takes place in Acts chapter 26.

In the passage, Paul, who has been arrested for declaring the Gospel, tells the king about his dramatic salvation experience on the road to Damascus. Paul then quotes Jesus and the words are so pertinent for today as many in our nation do not understand the reality of Satan, or of Jesus Christ.

In verse 18, Jesus’ words declare how Christians are to represent Christ to the world. We are to attempt to “open their eyes, and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me (Jesus).”

This beautiful verse is our mission in a nutshell.

Christians, we will certainly be laughed at and mocked for not falling into lockstep with the mainstream, but that is often the price we pay for being apologists for Jesus Christ.

We must continue to compassionately reach out to people who do not know Jesus Christ and convince them of His reality and His desire to save their souls. We must also let them know that Satan is real and wants to destroy them.

While shows like “Reaper” will numb the souls of many against such teaching, we must be prepared to offer intrepid defenses of the faith so that hungry hearts can come to know the peace that passes all understanding through knowing Jesus Christ as Savior.
