Welcome to a place where Christ should be exalted and "Self" should be abased!!

Welcome to a place where the BIBLE can be discussed rationally, intelligently, and positively without unnecessary argument!!

Welcome to a place where prayer can be requested and encouraged!!

Welcome to a place where positive and encouraging thoughts from scripture can be shared in a caring and loving way!!

Welcome to a place away from all the arguments, recriminations, and negativity of the outside world!!

Welcome to a place of rest and safety!!

Welcome to a place where Philippians 2:3 is practiced: "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves."

Welcome to this Christian thread.

(Please leave all aggression, bitterness, and philosophy outside the door and please wipe your feet before coming inside!!)

Yes it is too bad. However, they are thinking of her too and her protection. She is becoming a young woman, and not everyone's intentions are good. Still, I felt blessed by that loving child's warm hug.

Yes, you were blessed....the love from that child was love from God!

So must we be to enter the kingdom of heaven it is said....

*sigh* I feel that adults should be able to give warm hugs too without any shame whatsoever.....

Yes Susan, we moved around. Also lived in Illinois, Virgina and Missouri. In those days, it was required in big corporations. A friend of ours called IBM "I've been moved". "Gathering God's love" what a kind way of putting that long winding road of mine. I was so stubborn.

Maj, I did feel God's love in that hug.

I agree about the hugs, and I take them where I find them.
During a very dark time in my life, I got a devastating phone call at work--the phone was on "speaker". I thought I would fall apart on the spot. A woman I worked with overheard the call, and came and gave me a hug so strong it almost hurt--but that hug gave me the strength to pull myself together and deal with the problem.

Good morning Dove.

Sending (((((hugs))))) to all.

it REALLY is a shame... but nevertheless is a must. Not only for their own personal safety from strangers but for other reasons...

Although my daughter still loves to hug, she had to be taught that other children her age, did not like it when she was in their * space *

The same goes for the other way around, Jess does not like it when someone is in her space either.... She belongs to a club where they all have special needs, and she dislikes it when Nicola get right into her face when Nikki speaks.. In fact, they have designated a gesture for when this happens... You put up your hand, and say the word SPACE, which reminds Nicola to give people the space that they need.

smooooooooooch everyone !

That is interesting Nicki. DGS gets right in other children's faces when he is trying to make friends with them, and speaks much too loudly and scares them off. On the other hand, he does not like people to come physically close to him. He does not yet get the "do unto others" concept, but at least he responds to "No, you cannot do that" so we are lucky there. And he does have some response to others' feelings. He didn't know why I would want a hug, but he saw I wanted one, (it might have been the 'Granny missed you so much and she would love a hug' LOL) and made me a gift. That is extremely rare for him. I probably could count on one hand the hugs I have had from him. However, he is a great little guy, and I am thankful for that. ((((Hugs)))) to Jesse.

We all have some character at birth- half nature, half nuture as they say. Your little Grandson already likes his own space, Nikki! But he knew that you wanted that hug. Growing up already. Susan
My friend works for a large company. Four years short of early retirement the company closed the Toronto office; a major decision. Since then she has been in Calgary and Moncton. I am very happy to say that she will be returning home, at last, in eight weeks. On the plus side, I had the chance to see both Calgary and Moncton. I love it down East. My husband has been to Vancouver and says he won't take me their because if I saw it I would want to live there. Susan

Well, I simply don't agree that it is "a must".....

IMO -- THAT IS SAD....if it is "a must" for you then fine, but need not be "a must" for all.....and especially not for those that love God! 🙂

Oh--that is lovely. It makes reaching for the "ignore button" so much easier to reach.

Maj, I think Nicki is absolutely right. It is a " must" to teach children how to be safe. Because of their wonderful hearts, special needs kids are especially vulnerable to the evil around us and it would be very naive to believe if they love God, or their parents love God, nothing bad will happen to them. I don't want to start an argument on this thread, so that is all I have to say about that.

Nicki, I loved meeting your dear girl. You have done such a good job parenting. Your Jess is such a happy soul. She is funny, confident, and loving. She also was cautious enough to look to the leader of the group before she accepted DH & I.

Sweet dreams everyone.

survivornikki, thank you for the nice things that you said about my Jessie.. It was a lifetime of work, in fact a work still in progress.

She teaches me quite a bit too, like what unconditional love really means

Well, you raise your kids as you see fit.

I mean that's your choice how much fear to have and give them.

But as I recall Kelly was worried about her son on the ATV.

I think you were saying not to be worried as I seem to remember that you posted "Life happens...."

My husband always tells me i am too trusting and get used as a result. I guess that deep down I think we are all good and not so selfish. I always assume the best in others until proven otherwise.
Raising a child with a balance between trust and caution has to be difficult. I would guess that a lot depends on the nature of the child. Only Mom knows for sure. Susan
