This could go on for some time yet.
Justin Trudeau meets with hunger striking chief Theresa Spence
OTTAWA — Like many Canadians, Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence spent a quiet Christmas morning with her family, opening presents with two of her five daughters.
But far from her home on James Bay, Spence entered the third week of a hunger strike Tuesday, an action she says won’t end until Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Gov. Gen. David Johnston agree to sit down and talk about Canada’s treaty relationship with First Nations leadership.
She did have a visitor on Boxing Day, however, Liberal Leadership hopeful Justin Trudeau came by to meet with the First Nations leader.
“It was deeply moving to meet [Theresa Spence] today. She is willing to sacrifice everything for her people. She shouldn’t have to,” Trudeau wrote on twitter.

The way I see it is we need to see ourselves more as partners with Canada, rather than it's eternal children, the child is growing (thru education).
All encompassing bills should be a worry to all, as this is how communist governments work, not democratic.
I vote any time, any place, any where. No vote, no voice, no right to complain, as far as I'm concerned.
I would like to be able to vote for a National Chief that represents the Native voice in parliament, a voice that carries as much weight as the Priminister, this is my dream, then I wake up and find myself in the confines of this reality, it's nice to dream.
Finally I would like to comment on those broken bottles you and your compatriots had to pick up, I'm afraid I am guilty of breaking a few 'wobbly' bottles in my younger days, so may I offer this to you, I too have had to pick up broken bottles at our local school basketball court, more than once, no problem as I see it as my civic duty to pick up something that could potentially harm a child.
No more 'wobbly' pops for me, 20+ years sober

Not gonna happen anytime soon or distant. I suffer from Windbag Disassociation Disorder, whereby the complete avoidance of the causal factor; ergo, the windbag, is necessary to avoid having my posts moderated. Incidently, the rabbits we have are friendly, but not exactly paragons of intellectual brilliance.

I suffer from Windbag Disassociation Disorder...
Good Gawd, that is funny.
I am definitely going to remember that line.

😉 Aesop or Dr. Seuss reported that Curious George beat the hare. I sincerely hope the good Dr. Pam doesn't get her jollies by entrapping her victims in a black vortex of negativity. It may seem hard for some to believe, but once upon a time, an innocent Greyhound bus driver once got labelled a racist on this discussion board. It just happens sometimes. Even threads on the Vancouver Olympics got turned into a festering tangled web.

The majority of the "original" owners of the land do not feel they still have a claim to that land and have moved on.
Which has always been what invaders ultimately hope for if they keep stepping on minorities long enough.
IMO, the natives will continue this fight and do not have a chance of winning.
You may be right….but as I was taught, when it comes right down to it….’better to die on your feet than live on your knees’.
And the worst fear is that the land they live on, the house their kids and grandkids grew up in, will become part of the process.
First Nations people have no intention of shoving people off their land. That concept shows how uneducated a lot of people truly are.
The natives need to get together in their own Parliament and decide exactly what is needed to resolve the issue once and for all.
They have in many ways past and present pretty much done that. The problem is….dealing with the other Parliament….. who holds all the power.
They are Canadian when it suits them but still wish to be governed by their own rules and their own laws - dealt with by their own courts.
First Nations people have for the most part no problem being ‘Canadians’. They are not stupid!
They don't pay tax. Yet, they will sell to non-natives - tax-free. Many people here go to the rez for smokes and gas. Tax free status is granted to natives - not the non-natives. If you are going to "share" that benefit with others, you may lose it.
Yes they don’t pay tax if they live and work on a Reserve. Off the Rez they pay taxes like anyone else.
Smokes….yes people buy off the Rez….me included….but a) it’s a minor amount compared to what our own governments shaft us out of.......... and ….b) when it comes to gas the price isn’t much different, maybe two or three cents which is just competition like all gas stations. Gas at the Rez a week ago to non-Natives was only 2 cents difference compared to the off the Rez gas stations. Only Natives with a status card can get gas at much lower prices because of the tax. The white man is being shafted by the oil companies and by the government but instead of going after either of them......they go after the Natives.
Natives claim a great respect for mother earth, yet, I have seen many examples where this is window dressing. They certainly don't respect their own people. Native children have access to liquor, drugs, lottery tickets, smoke-filled bingo halls. My son played ball on a diamond at Muncey. We had to clear the broken liquor and beer bottle glass off the diamond before every game. Were they not concerned their own kids would get hurt.
Oh my how atrocious!!!!!! Liquor, drugs, lottery tickets, smoke-filled bingo halls....you Never see that in a white community....no not at all. Have you ever wondered why some Natives are like that? Well here's the answer.......the influence of the white man. Read up on it.
In ‘every’ race of people you will find those who are not part of their ‘clan’…..and they not only discredit all their people but on top of that they leave wide open their few actions for the bigoted and prejudiced to fly on their agenda flag pole. Would you like a longggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg list of Natives who do cherish the land and do save it. How about a longgggg list of Natives who do not drink, or do drugs and don't even smoke.
I remember years ago when I was in the hotel business we had meetings between the government and Native leaders in the conference rooms. During coffee breaks in the hall I would talk to the Chiefs and I remember one Chief who said something to me I will never forget........"we work hard, or people work hard but the only thing the white man remembers is the drunk Indian on Talbot St" (where at the time some really bad bars were).
When I worked door in bars I had a friend who was killed by a Native who was drunk. The Native man was tossed out of the bar and returned with a shotgun and killed my friend......shot him dead. If I was as small minded as some people I could easily have a dislike for all Natives ....but I would never go that low.
I also had a Native friend who tried to rip me off and stole my wife's jewellery. (he didn't get away). I also had a Native woman who bounced a sizable cheque for items she bought. But do I have a thing to say against 'Natives'? No.....because there people of all races, colours or religions that do.............. exactly the same thing!!!!
I judge people by who they are as an individual....and not anything else.
And don't tell me to go visit the rez. I worked for a native for four years. I travelled throughout Ontario and into Quebec. My boss was always after me to do things that were major crimes.
So let me get this clear…….crystal clear…….Because you had a boss who was a Native and he wanted you to do illegal things you have decided that that is what ALL Natives are and you tell people that and you publish it on the internet so that it influences people? Let me tell you something. I worked for a British man who ran a hotel and he shafted everyone. As a matter of fact I kept his butt out of jail by covering for him. So is he representative of all British men? I suppose if someone has a gripe against the British he would make good internet ammunition for someone's agenda.
I also worked for an Italian family and you have no idea what they were into!!! Are they representative of All Italians? NO! and I would never, never, use that family for an agenda against Italians because........... I was brought up better than that.

Anyway, the avoidance of a few select individuals has pretty much sucessfully repelled the hordes of pathogenic pink emails. Coincidence? I think not. Some folks are just naturally toxic.

I think, it should be the pens turn.

The pen also has been tried before but hasn't worked, because one side controls the ink supply and won't allow the use of it until they have get all they want. As has been pointed out....if you take all the Rez's in Canada...and put them together....they would all fit on Vancouver island. That shows who has been in control.

What percentage of Canada"s population is native? My guess is that it is less than 10%. Yet, you want equal representative to Prime Minister. Not going to happen.

Sometimes an individual has to get to a place in his / her ;ife where they focus and become determined to not let circumstances control their destinies. At least two of the "Dragons" on CBC's "Dragons Den" came from poor backgrounds. Robert Herjavec immigrated to Canada with his parents; dirt poor. Arlene Dickinson - marriage dissolved leaving her a young single mom raising 4 kids. Jim Treliving wasn't well paid much as a young RCMP constable, and struggled to make mortgage payments.
Playing the Blame Game is a lousy substitute for hard work and common sense. Lotteries love the money poor folks spend in the hope of getting rich quick.

Tell that to the residents of Caledonia. The land dispute in that area over a housing development disrup^ted their lives for a number of years. The developer of Douglas Creek Estates was given approval by the Provincial Government to build on this land.
What did this small dispute cost Canadians? I can find figues that total $22 million, but no figures on policing and other costs.

Oh my how atrocious!!!!!! Liquor, drugs, lottery tickets, smoke-filled bingo halls....you Never see that in a white community....no not at all.
Not when it comes to kids openly drinking, smoking and gambling in front of parents. And, I am talking about kids, not teens. We regularly posted a parent at the snack bar at the ball diamond. The natives were asking our kids if they wanted cigarettes and lottery tickets.
12-30-2012 09:32 AM
Because you had a boss who was a Native and he wanted you to do illegal things you have decided that that is what ALL Natives are
In my job, I dealt with like-minded natives all over the province and in Quebec.
12-30-2012 09:33 AM
Trouble is, when I post a comment like the above post, I get accused of being a racist, stereotyping Natives as being lazy or lacking common sense. Wrongo. Individuals, societies, and even entire countries become addicted to handouts and as long as others are willing to continually treat them as "victims" then nouthin will change. Baby rabbits eventually get weaned, but some people want to drink milk forever.

Unfortunately, there has always been a problem with well educated and hard working natives being accepted by white society. I went to University with a native named Peter. He was the hardest working student in the class. He graduated top of the class. When graduation day came, every student in the class had a job offer (the good old days), except for Peter. I kept in touch with him for several years, and he was never able to secure a job that used his education and talents.
Peter's brother was one of the exceptions. he got his education in law. The last time I heard of him, he was a respected judge in B.C.

i agree it is better to die on your feet then on your knees but do you not think if they pick a specific battle to fight and win it would be worth being on your feet for so damn long...
here i am i was speaking in general...
FYI I think the bigger issues are people like 1 guy at my work who is White as the driven snow but has a status car because he got it before they change the rules and the guy in no way looks native or even knows what there lives and beliefs are...
hereiam not trying to be offensive or anything I just think fighting for a piece of pie makes alot more sense then what they are doing now .. Fighting for too much will change nothing .. It's like the hippies fighting for world piece never gnnna happen...
Also none of the Native American friends I have other then my few white wanna be friends ever paid any taxes ...
I live in around many many reserves and honestly have atleast 100 native american friends (REAL LIFE NOT FACEBOOK) and Though they paid for there homes it was about 15k less then i would pay and not one of them give a damn about there heritage or way of life ...They pay 1000's less for everything and probably don't even know what reserve they grew up in...
I think the New Generation maybe be more educated but they are sure not helping with the fight to maintain a way of life ..
Anyways not trying to offensive but it is all true.. some people may think there is ignorance in Canada towards native but the majority of us don't even care about our own heritage so the majority of us are not gonna care about Native Americans Heritage either
