Had the Senate passed the bill today, postal workers would have returned on Monday

"Should the Senate block this back to work legislation or even just drag their feet for a time I believe the majority of the public would be very unhappy with this group of unelected patronage appointees."
Actually I think a majority of the public don't care about the strike at all. The post office is a big deal to a lot of us but to a majority of the public it is of only of marginal relevance.
Also if they do go back to work just see how much overtime they work and how hard they try to clear up the mess when angry about the legislation. The small business losses might be mitigated a bit but very little. This years Christmas season is a bust for many.

“Once enacted, Bill C-89 would impose fines of between $1,000 and $50,000 per day on anyone found in contravention of the Act, and up to $100,000 per day against Canada Post or the union if they are found guilty of violating its terms.
“Canada Post said it expected to make about 30,000 deliveries of parcels to Canadians over the past two days — a far cry from the 500,000 deliveries that a company spokesman said was normal for a late-November weekend.”

One day to get back on track,eh. The union is certainly downplaying this a lot more than they did in their memo to workers. Somehow I just don’t believe one day will fix the issue.

I'm listening to the audio version of the Senate session but I have no idea what's happening at the moment. It's a guy listing names. Vote?

It was a vote on a motion. The final vote has not yet been called.
.... They've just voted on a motion now to read the bill for the third time. And now a whole list of names again but I stopped paying attention so I don't know if this is The Vote or if it's simply voting on whether or not they agree that they're ready to stop debating and start voting. (Hah, someone's cellphone is ringing in the chamber. Embarrassing.)

Bells will ring. If I understand correctly, senators have five minutes now to get their butts back to chamber to vote on the bill in its third reading.
This is like the Ultimate Lesson in how to chair a meeting.
