Not really. I only know things I pick up here and there. I am a bit older myself though and if the question is not too detailed, I may be able to help, or show you where you can find help. ?:|

So you never had to put elderly parents/parents-in-law in a nursing home?

Re: THE NEW CANADA 1,000,000 MILLION THREAD!!!!!

My Grandmother was in a nursing home. She had Alzheimer and kept trying to go home, because she had returned to a time when she still had a family that needed taking care of. After awhile she became bed-ridden. I don't know how much she noticed where she was. Most of the time she didn't even recognise her children.

My parents died at an early age.

My children and I have talked about this situation a few times. I have asked them to put me in a nursing home, as I don't want to be a burden to them.

I don't know how I would decide, if I had been faced with this question for my parents. It would depend on how much professional care they needed. Care that I would be unable to provide for them.

If they needed professional care, I would put them in a nursing home close by, so as not to lose contact with them.

As I said, only my grandmother. And I don't really think she knew where she was.

Well, what is the quality of care provided by nursing homes? Do you have to pay or is it covered by your social system? What about in home care, would you have to pay out of your own pocket for that? Would that be expensive?

Re: THE NEW CANADA 1,000,000 MILLION THREAD!!!!!

The care is pretty good here. Depending on your income the children pay a percentage of the care. The more you make, the more you pay. Otherwise it is covered by the social system.

Of course we also have our share of scandals, but they are far between.

With in home care, you get a certain amount from the social system. Also based on your income.

Medication and doctors are free.

Here is a project that is working pretty well for the healthy elderly.
