Background:

eBay University in the United States was established 3 years ago and has been such a huge success that they were looking for a way to expand beyond the few cities per year that they could get to. In addition, many people were teaching others how to use eBay already, whether it was casually teaching their friends and family or formally teaching students in classrooms. Many were coming to them for materials that they could use in their own sessions, which eBay University didn’t have until they launched the Education Specialist Program. So the goal was to expand the success of the eBay University curriculum, as well as provide the eBay community with tools to teach easily and effectively.

In Canada, we have been using some of the same materials as the US eBay University but we created a bigger event out of it and started eBay.ca On The Road. We wanted to be able to give our users the same information so they could go out into their communities and teach for extra revenue and for fun!

What is the Education Specialist Program?

This is an online program where you can learn to teach others how to use eBay. American Research Institute administers this program through its PowerU website in association with eBay. You will learn how to teach “The Basics of Selling on eBay” and have access to student materials and curriculum for your own classes. You will also be able to use the Education Specialist logo in accordance with the User Agreement.

Qualifications:
If you are already teaching about eBay and which to utilize the same materials that were developed by eBay for eBay University, you may sign up and get more information by going to www.espcanada.com/ebay and clicking on the “Sign Up Now” link. To become an Education Specialist, you must be an eBay Member in good standing, have good knowledge of how to sell on eBay and, ideally, have taught others to use the site successfully. Because there are several options for teaching about eBay in different environments, it is not necessary to have taught in a formal classroom.

How Much does it cost and what do I get?

The registration fee is $185CAD for the first year. To remain an active Education Specialist, the annual renewal fee is currently $60CAD per year. For this fee you will get access to the online course, Instructor Manual, access to Student Materials, approved logos for advertising your courses, access to the Education Specialist Directory – where you may list your class information, ongoing support from other Education Specialists and American Research Institute – a leader in training.

This program is a great way to supplement your income on eBay. In particular this would be great for someone who has seasonal sales trends and wanted to fill in the slower times with some additional revenue streams.

Personally, I love to teach these classes because I get to meet and greet people who have similar interests as me.

Training is a great point, Christy. This year for On the Road, all of our trainers are taking the online training course to build up their confidence and learn the material.
