BC PST

I know this was asked before but all the answers seem to be unclear and/ or date back to 2022.

I am registered for PST but not GST in the province of BC. March is my first reporting, due end of April. My bookkeeper doesn’t seem to understand that eBay and Etsy are collecting PST snd remitting them.

My question is do I, as others have suggested, fill out a “nil” sales in the remittance form, because the tax was already remitted? I have no sales other than eBay and Etsy, and both collect and remit sales tax already. My bookkeeper says I owe PST money. I don’t think I do.

Thanks in advance.

Not a direct answer, but get your bookkeeper to register you for GST.

Being registered means you get a tax credit on your purchases for resale and also on exported shipments.

Or drop both if your income is only from etsy and eBay and the two sites provide so little income.

EBay will be sending out forms, which they also provide to CRA, with our gross sales annually, I think next year. This should simplify bookkeeping for many sellers.

I'm registered for PST with BC as well and only sell on eBay.  I have had many detailed conversations with the tax office about this subject.  Since eBay is remitting the PST you would just report Nil on your annual filings.  That's it, nice and easy.

Your book keeper's thinking is correct if you were selling outside of an online platform or a platform that does not collect the PST. Direct selling does require you to collect and remit PST of course.

Hope that helps
