Any ideas as what to do if we use CPC Online Business Tools to print our labels? We get a better deal through our business account than we would through Paypal.

I am curious as to what kind of deal you get with CPC directly.
Using PayPal, sellers get 25% off Expedited Parcel to Canada and the USA. For Xpresspost, it is 8% off to Canada and 9% off to the USA.
How much better are the rates for you? Do ypu get discounts on Small/Light Packet USA? What volume do you need to keep the discounts?

Hello Poco,
have to thank you for putting me in touch with Roy for the discount stamps. Have already placed 2 orders!! Yes, don't know why I didn't do it sooner...LOL... As for the CPC directly, I did talk to a sales rep for Canada Post and it does work out cheaper than through paypal for almost every transaction however you have to pay them with a charge card, you sort of are playing catch up, because all the money is in paypal, you would have to transfer your balance to your bank account then pay the charge card to pay Canada Post. I believe you have to do 100 transactions- now I can't remember if that's a year or a month (I think it's a year). Either way I qualified. The only reason I don't do it is it is much easier to do it right out of paypal and most of the transactions migrate to ebay directly.

I spent the morning on the phone with my rep only to not get a clear answer. Depends on where the package is being sent rather than a clean % off of retail. However, for an example, this morning I sent out a moulding for a car which paypal figured on the shipping is $37 to Virginia, where as CPC was $31. For the Small/Light Packets Air, though I might save a dime. For volume, our company ships about 1000 pieces a year on average, with only about 100 through ebay on average. Hope this helps!

How does listing the "city" (according to the postal code) protect those of us who live in small towns or villages and sell on Ebay? All a person has to do is ask where someone lives at the local gas station or grocery store and go to their door! Do we have the option of inserting a postal code for the nearest city the mail goes through if this is the case?

Why are so many people worried asbout postal codes .. I can go on the net and find your number address date of birth and everything else with your first, last name and city .. I don't need a postal code find anybodies exact location ... Turn on your cell phone and the cops can find you at your local grocery store...
Protect your money but other then that unless your living on solar power with not ever having the internet or a cell phone anyone can find you

My first and last name plus city does not give my personal information.
If it did that would be against Canada's Privacy Laws...
Social Insurance Number gives interesting results but nothing about me
Went to Canada Post and did a "Reverse lookup" of the postal code.
My apartment block shows up but not my apartment number.
For a house it gives the street with a series of number... but not a number for a specific residence.
There is nothing wrong with having the postal code on eBay...
There are too many sellers that say....
Friendly Manitoba.... or
something like Southern USA
It would, however, not allow me to determine whether a seller is a dropshipper... using Multiple locations...
If the listing gives a code for a US location in the listing ... but the seller's address is China... That is not acceptable.
The US code or postal code in Canada... must identify where the seller lives...
If a potential buyer more specifically a local buyer asks a question... How many sellers answer with their name... and then one does an address lookup in relation to the name.
It is very difficult to hide nowadays.... satellite photos... Google street view... address, telephone number..
One piece of information can give a lot of information.
However, certain information is protected by privacy laws.
How many remember when one can put a Social Insurance Number on a letter and the letter will get to the right person??? NOT possible today

The postal code will not show on listings... What will show is the city or nearest town where the postal station is located.
That is all that is needed.
If you answer a question with your name.. then the person asking the question can track you down right to the exact apartment, the exact house....where you live...
Privacy laws protects each of us .. unless you give out your information... and then the person who gets that information must follow the law with respect to your information.
Each of us has the address of our buyers.... How many of us protect that information in order to prevent misuse...
Protect your postal code... but mess up elsewhere... perhaps

To expand my point in this comment, in small towns/villages the whole town has the same postal code. Ebay will then use the name of the small town I live in once the postal code is inserted. When the town is small enough that you can throw a rock from one end to the other all someone has to do is stop and ask where anyone lives. Then people can just show up at the door. Not a good idea!!!

how many people are really going to show up at someone's door.? I can count on 2 hands how many buyers I have had in Nova Scotia and only a couple have asked to "view my store" I just told them I don't provide that option. Anyone that buys in my area I meet somewhere neutral.

I get requests constantly for people to come by to look at the items I have for sale to pick colors, styles and see what fits their dog. I tell them I only sell online, my business license does not allow customers to come to the door and there's a liability issue with my 3 large dogs meeting them at the front door. They still want to come!

I looked at your listings and your pictures are great, they show the colors very well!!

Frm the fall 2012 update checklist .....
Accurate item location information builds buyer confidence
Seeing an accurate item location helps build buyer confidence in listings. Starting the week of October 22, you'll have a new, easier way to specify item location. Enter a valid Canadian postal code or US zip code and eBay will automatically fill in the correct city and province or state. If the postal code or zip code provided is invalid, on eBay.ca, the city and province information provided by the seller will be displayed on the item page; on eBay.com, buyers will only see the item country on the item page.

ok you give me your first last name and city and I will give you your postal code and a phone call how's that sound cumo ...
08-07-2012 08:06 PM
I don't have the city as I don't want to encoruage people decidng local pickup is alright from going ahead and buying. Even just showing the province I get people who bought not knowing the city sending messages "if you are in the gta I'll just come over". One nut job, after hearing where I was, told me her husband would be driving by one day, so wanted me to go somewhere near the 401 and wait for him. That was for an item she already bought, showing free shipping, actual postage cost only $2 and only 2 days away by mail.
