Acceptance Scan Receipt

So are acceptance receipts no longer given when we take our prepaid (Paypal)  Postal Labeled Packages?
My two closet "Official" Postal Outlets say their most recent system update no longer lets them give me one.
This is for expedited with in Canada.

Why would you need a printed receipt? You take the package to the outlet, they scan it, if you want a piece of paper you can print it out yourself at home.

That is correct. Expedited Parcel Canada does not get a printed acceptance receipt because it is tracked online. You still should get the package scanned when you drop off so it is accepted and shows in the postal system.

Small packet (which is not tracked online) is one service where you can get a printed acceptance receipt.

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

When did this change? I got one for an Expedited Parcel within Canada this morning. Two actually. Both Expedited Parcel within Canada and printed via Paypal shipping.

My postal outlet hasn't done it for expedited Canada paid through the Canada Post website for at least a couple of months -- if you buy there, you do get a printed receipt.  I usually only bother with receipts for small packet.

Although they could be looking on the wrong screen of data, CP likes shuffling things every time they do an update.

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

How very odd. I'm still getting mine as if nothing has changed.

Corrected to add "not".

Won't be the first time practices are unevenly applied.

My data: Ontario region, Shoppers Drugmart postal outlet(s). While there is a real post office in range of my current abode, parking issues have discouraged me from ever using it.

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

The few outlets I go to in Richmond BC stopped giving the acceptance receipt out. So I asked them to photocopy the expedited parcel / tracked packet shipping label and stamp the date on it and they were willing to do that.

Me as well.  In fact, I never used to get a receipt for Expedited Parcel Canada.  But a few months ago, the clerks started giving me one.

I think it depends on the postal clerk.  A couple of them automatically give me receipts; a couple of others will ask me if I want one.  It really doesn't matter to me as long as I can access the tracking number online.

I've even got a receipt for Small Packet Air  I've told the clerks that it isn't necessary because there is no tracking number associated with it, but they'll often give me one anyway.

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

It's the Small Packet Airmail which may be the most useful... if it's third-party insured and you need Proof of Shipment to open a claim.

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

I'm a Canada Post clerk. Whether or not you get a receipt depends on where you printed the label from.

If you printed from PayPal then you can get the receipt (for any service for which the receipt has a barcode on it).

If you printed from Canada Post's online EST then you can not get a receipt. The retail POS system has no way to print confirmation/acceptance receipts.

This is because the computer treats them as different things - if it's a PayPal label (we can easily tell because it will say "eBay" on the bottom of the label), then it needs to be "Originated" in the system. Originating is the same process that is done if you were to mail out a prepaid Xpresspost envelope or one of the new flat rate shipping boxes. Shipping paid for/printed directly through Canada Post is considered a "Commercial Shipment" and therefore needs to be "verified" in the system as a commercial shipment. Verifying an item as a commercial shipment has no receipt option, I'm assuming because you have access to all the records on your Canada Post account.

If the clerk says otherwise then they may just be misinformed. Please don't get angry with them. There are so many rules and so many different things to know about working the RPOS system that it's hard to learn everything, especially for new employees. If you feel that you should be getting a receipt when you aren't then maybe nicely ask to speak with a manager, or ask what times the manager is in, and you can speak to them (they probably work during the day on weekdays, if you go in the evenings or weekends you are speaking with a clerk who may be new to the position and doesn't know all the ins and outs). Getting angry at the postal clerk isn't going to solve anything.

And in any case, if you're mailing via a service that has tracking, why exactly do you need an acceptance scan receipt?

----------

EDIT: I can't confirm whether or not the most recent "system update" would have affected the ability to print receipts for Expedited Parcel as I haven't had anyone come through yet with that option. That doesn't really make sense to me why they would remove that, but it's possible that's true, I just have no way to confirm it. I also don't recall seeing any mention of this in any of Canada Post's recent "InfoMessages" that alert us to updates/changes in the system.

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

Thank you for your input. However, I have gotten an Acceptance Scan just the same when I've used EST for Tracked Packets* and Priority USA which are not set-up within the PayPal Shipping framework.

*Paypal Shipping is more than a year behind on updating their list of countries served by Tracked Packet. Like Brazil, for example.

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

P.s. I'm glad you found this thread, dinomitesales; I was hoping you'd share your insight since you know better than any of us what goes on behind-the-scenes at an authorized postal dealer.

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

I don't know why you were able to get acceptance scan receipts for commercial shipments, and of course there really isn't any way you can prove that.

I'm not calling you a liar, I'm just saying that the way the system is set up there should be no way for that to happen. Now, I've only worked here for like 6 months, so if these transactions were done prior to that then I can not confirm nor deny whether it was once possible.

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

The last was in December. I can prove it, as a matter of fact. With the receipts. One printed as an Acceptance Scan and the other a copy of the postage label as purchased from EST. I don't, however, feel motivated enough to spend two hours looking for this to prove my point. I'll ask at the counter next time I take a parcel as to the reason there may be discrepancies between dealers.

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

I don't expect you to spend time like that in an attempt to prove your point. If you do ever look into them, let me know as I'd be interested in seeing it myself. Assuming both the acceptance scan receipt and the shipping label have the same tracking number on them.

And if this IS something that is possible, for specific shipment methods only, then this just proves my point how convoluted and non-intuitive Canada Post's RPOS system is. If you've ever gotten frustrated with a Canada Post clerk just imagine all the things they are supposed to know and how easy it is to forget, misremember, be misinformed, or simply have no idea about because it's not a situation that has ever come up before.

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

It never ceases to annoy my PM when I'm advising them of stuff they haven't heard of yet.....and from what I see there are some very convoluted processes the PMs are supposed to know...... and because I'm a "stamps on the box" kinda guy, I hate seeing new faces behind the till when my PM isn't in....

More important maybe is that Proof Of Shipment will work for an PayPal Unauthorized Use claim.

I still don't understand why anybody would want or need a printed receipt for an item which receives an acceptance scan.

When I drop off Expedited Parcels I'm not waiting around for anything never mind a receipt, I drop my package on the counter, say thanks and am out the door in seconds. If I were to look back on my way I would see the clerk scanning my label and placing the package in the bin......what more do I need?

Re: Acceptance Scan Receipt

Because I always insisted on acceptance scans for Small Packets Airmail at my local counter, the staff just got used to handing me one for everything. It's been easier to smile and nod than to split hairs. I appreciate the gesture.

I will look for the paperwork tonight after my kids go to bed. I have a hella mess that I call filing, if it's in the top six inches, I'll find it.
