Address by buyer was wrong, package came back, WWYD?

I sent off a CD to a new buyer and it came back as no such address.  I double checked and that is the address on ebay/paypal file.  What to do now?

I checked google and she put in the wrong postal code.

I have emailed the buyer regarding the address.  Who pays for the new shipping if she wants it, if she doesn't want it, do I just refund the cost of the item not the shipping?

Please help.

Ohh @musicyouneed - this is a tricky one, but not uncommon.

Most optimal outcome is that the buyer will contact you to rearrange shipping. In that case the simplest thing to do is invoice the member through PayPal for the cost of shipping.

If they no longer want the item, you could look at either submitting a cancellation through eBay which would give a full refund, or issuing a refund through PayPal directly less the shipping cost, but I wouldn't have a way for you to get your Final Value Fees credited in that situation. Depending on how much the cost of shipping vs the FVF that was charged it may make that decision for you.

Thanks!

The cancellation would  be Problem With Address obviously.

While ethically, you should be refunding, when the buyer gives a wrong address or if a buyer refuses a purchase on her doorstep, the seller is not obliged to refund.

In effect, that could mean that the seller refunds the purchase price, but adjusts the shipping portion to reflect that he is out the original shipping costs plus the non-refundable Paypal fees on purchase, shipping and Internet Sales Tax.

@femmefan1946

A seller can also be out the return shipping if Canadapost is in a grouchy mood and chooses to charge for return to sender the applicable postage. That can be hit or miss. Had that happen last year. New customer forgot to include apt number. Item was returned and they did not want to pay for return shipping.

Which would result in a full refund including the original shipping.

WWID: I would simply talk to the buyer, confirm the correct address and resend on my dime.

(it comes from my "cookie jar insurance" fund)

I have some very good repeat customers that had problems like this, and me eating $1.94 or $7.54 or whatever to resend put me in their very very good books and they've become great repeat customers thereafter.

Think of it as cheap advertising maybe..... I would certainly well remember a seller doing this for me when I was rebuying....

IS this a new buyer, if not they would have lots of items not being received,  i would recommend, sending an email stating the item was returned because, they have a wrong postal code listed on their address, then await a response..

Brand new buyer.  I am her only purchase.  The postal code doesn't match the address provided.  I did send her an email so we will see.

She has not responded to my email, I will send another one.  Because she is a new buyer, probably not familiar with the process.  Normally for a newby I google their address because many leave apt #'s off.

Well the buyer never responded to any of my 4 emails that I sent.  I called ebay and I then went through paypal and refunded the purchase price to her with a note as to why.  Lets hope that is the end of it.
