Any suggestions about how to respond to this?

I got a message from a potential buyer

"I like some of your items and want to pick up them myself to avoid shipping cost. Can I come over any convenient for you time over the weekend?"
I don't want to sell off-ebay, so I am not sure how to go about this.

It has nothing to do with where you are registered, it is because you are listing on .com and any buyer not in the US is considered international, As mentioned by other posters, you can list local pick up on a .ca listing.

it is against policy to pay for a eBay item and avoid fees doing it. So meeting in person and accepting cash could get you into trouble with eBay.

No.

EBay charges fees for listing.

EBay charges fees for selling.

EBay charges fees on any shipping charges.

EBay does NOT charge fees on payments.

Those are paid to Paypal or the credit card company.

When  buyer pays in cash there are no PP fees- and those have nothing to do with eBay anyway.

When the buyer picks up there are no shipping fees.

EBay collects their listing and selling fees when the item sells.

If an item is not paid for, eBay does not refund fees until an Unpaid Item Dispute is settled and the deadbeat buyer gets a Strike at the same time.

Any suggestions about how to respond to this?

We ran out of time, my buyer had to drive 100 km to pick it up, so ended up paying with Paypal. If I had read the helpful info. before and relisted the special listing on .ca, I could have opted for local pick up, and she could have paid cash like she wanted to.

This whole long saga could have been avoided if this problem with combined shipping was resolved. It is so random from any country, some buyers can and some can't purchase and then leave without paying in order to purchase more items. This has been going on for so long, once again my setting were checked and were correct, I DO take combined shipping, I DON'T have instant payment.

Sales are very slow, and I came close to losing this sale because of the problems.

Instead of creating a special listing for the buyer, why not adding the Best Offer option on each as cusmos55 suggested? That's what I would do....

There is a still somewhat of a risk with that. Say you as the seller agree to special pricing because it's a bulk purchase and then buyer backs out on four of five items, you're still stuck honouring the fifth for that steep discounted Best Offer price. Or you're fighting with ebay about the reason that you don't deserve the negative feedback or potential defect or whatever. Yes, you can include it in the 'terms and conditions' field but will Customer Service back you as the seller if the transaction turns ugly? It's hard to know. I considered that approach too and instead opted to go with Custom Bundles 99.6 per cent of the time.

I think you misunderstood. What I was talking about is not sending an offer to the buyer for each listing through eBay messages. What I meant is to add the BO option on each listing AND advise the buyer you will only accept the offers when all items received one. That way, the buyer cannot back out.

What the buyer should have done is put all the items in her cart and *then* request an invoice. If your seller settings are right like you said, it should have worked.

She tried that, it didn't work, and I have had other sellers say the same thing.

Any suggestions about how to respond to this?

I had a customer awhile back want to split an order to reduce taxes to Spain. It would not let him add to cart and kept combining the purchases not letting me process as 2 shipments which he was willing to pay the shipping on. He processed and paid several times. Fortunately he was super understanding. Not all customers are. After speaking to Ebay CS he had to make 1 purchase, then I processed. Then 2nd purchase and processed. It was a long drawn out way to do something that should have been very simple. Ebay had ZERO idea why this was happening. There seems to be a number of things that do not work as they should and no one seems to know how to fix or is trying to.

This is strange... as a buyer, I was not able to commit to buy on a few items from one seller, so I put the items in my cart and asked for an invoice and it worked. I was able to commit to buy. Although at first I had an error message, but it eventually worked.

In your seller preferences, under "Shipping preferences", does it say "yes" at the "Offer combined payments and shipping" question?

Any suggestions about how to respond to this?

Yes it does, each time I have called eBay about this problem they have checked my settings and they are correct. What I have been doing when a buyer can't combine the shipping is that I ask them what they are interested in, and then I do a special listing for them with the correct shipping.

It didn't work in this case because the buyer wanted local pick-up and to pay cash, and I didn't realize that I should have done the listing on ca. and not com. until it was too late.
