Anyone sold to Spain recently?

Just wondering if there's anything like Germany’s VerpackG with selling to Spain (or any European countries) at the moment. I got an offer from Spain... Thanks. This is my first sale outside North America in quite a long while!

If it's gonna be more work than simply printing the shipping label and adding the IOSS, then it's not worth the effort

Re: Anyone sold to Spain recently?

I've been getting a lot of European orders lately, as many as I do Canadian, which is  big change.
Although the number and value of sales have increased recently, the percentage of US sales has dropped to about 85% maybe less.

That includes a weird Spanish one.

No problem with printing a label. All the EU information was included automatically.

No problem getting to Spain.

But the customer left a minor detail off his address.

His city.

He let me know it did not arrive.

Well, duh. (I was more polite than that)

Since it was Undeliverable I was not required to refund (and it was a couple of hundred bucks).

Very slowly the package came back to me.

When it did about three months later, I Messaged him and asked if he wanted the item or the cost of the item (no shipping refund).

He wanted the item, corrected his address, paid shipping again.

Got his item and left positive Feedback.

All my other European and UK shipments have gone smoothly.

I prefer the eBay /Canada Post label because couriers have a habit of adding "fees" before delivery.

Re: Anyone sold to Spain recently?

Great! Thanks. Good to know Spain doesn't have the VerpackG. Would you happen to know if any other EU countries implemented anything similar?

I'll just message the buyer to verify address before I print shipping label. Yes I have been only using eBay to print CP labels just to keep it simple. Gonna use small packet air.

I had something similar happen a few months back to the UK. The area of town was missing on the address screen due to the VAT info that eBay drops in that field. I only found out by confirming Google maps and then with the customer. I had wrote the information in but the item never did get delivered as per the customer. Low value so no choice but to refund. Unfortunately eBay does not understand that foreign address formats do not mirror North American. Same goes S. America and Asia. And using the edit function for a ship to address can be dangerous. Most likely what happened in your situation with the missing city. It should have still gotten close with the Spanish Postal Code, if that was there.  Sample formats for Spain attached.

As a side note Central and South American address use degree which may or may not be recognized by eBays choice of font. Even ran across an address for a business in Mexico City that included long directions using intersections with mile markers.

Re: Anyone sold to Spain recently?

You are right-- although in this case the customer was the culprit and did correct the address for the second run.

But the VAT info in the middle of the address is -- dumb.

It was a non issue when using Shippo. The address displayed no problem including the VAT info. Best place for that info would be notes or if you used the long form.  It was also possible to mark either return to sender or destroy depending on item value. eBay Labels was a cut and paste from the bare bones USPS setup. The country of origin thingy is still updating to Canada vs the country seller enters. Incredibly bad programming on someone's part.

My bet is the address is correct from the buyers database. It becomes incorrect when ebay overwrites the VAT info into the eBay form. The buyer would never see that info when they go to pay. It's only at the sellers end.

Re: Anyone sold to Spain recently?

Shipped recently a few items to Spain and France with no issues. Concerning the VAT info between address lines: I always print my own address label, with the VAT info below the country's name.  The packing slip, with all tax info is also included - next to the address label. Here is - as example - my today's shipment to Australia:

Re: Anyone sold to Spain recently?

I already printed my small packet air label and then hand wrote the IOSS stuff into the CN22 form. Also printed the customer's full address on another little piece of paper and added the IOSS right below that as well.... And included the package slip with the IOSS line facing outside, in a Ziploc bag taped to the package. Hope that's good enough lol I can't think of what else I could add.

Re: Anyone sold to Spain recently?

Wow, my Spain small package air package arrived in just a week. Very impressed with the speed!

I also didn't know that buyers can attach photos with their feedbacks now...

Re: Anyone sold to Spain recently?

Did eBay stopped charging VAT for Spain? This buyer bought from me this week again, I just printed the packing label and just realized VAT wasn't charged. Is that new?

It looks like eBay recently removed from the create a label page but the info is still on the packing slip. You can attach a copy of packslip to your label, highlight the info and include in the pouch. Back up is copy and paste to note section of customs for m at bottom. When they scan they will be able to view that it WAS collected. I even include the amount collected by ebay to that note for peace of mind.

I had an order yesterday to Denmark and realized the above.

Note: The Vat collected is also missing from the address label along with phone number. Phone number does get posted to shipping label for Intl. orders.

Re: Anyone sold to Spain recently?

It's actually not on my packing slip, and I can't see any VAT collected info with order details either, that's why I thought it's weird.

I checked my previous order email with this buyer and there's VAT Paid in June, but not with the order this week.

With some countries their is a minimum amount threshhold and no tax. I recently had 1 with no tax applied. Order escapes me at the moment. I just marked no tax was collected in notes.  Important to know some countries it is based on the total including shipping. Others just on the item value.

What I found for Spain.

https://marosavat.com/manual/vat/spain/    21/10/4   %. There is a small set of free (Gold Coins)

https://wise.com/gb/vat/spain

By country. Good link to bookmark.

https://export.ebay.com/en/fees-and-payments/taxes-and-accounting/vat/

(Spain is missing)

This came up in another search but undated.

VAT exempt areas within EU countries
Does it fall into this?
  • Spain: Canary Islands. Ceuta. Melilla.
  • Germany: Büsingen am Hochrhein. Heligoland.
  • Greece: Mount Athos.
  • Italy: Campione d'Italia and the adjacent Italian waters of Lake Lugano. Livigno.

Re: Anyone sold to Spain recently?

Hmmm I'm still not quite sure why VAT isn't collected (should be 21% for books according to your link), as this buyer's order this month doubled what she bought last month. Address identical. Oh well......

Re: Anyone sold to Spain recently?

I had someone from Czecia buy stuff and the 3 orders around 120-150CAD he was charged VAT. The 3 orders in the 220-350CAD range he was not charged VAT. Czecia has a 150Euro rule I saw in one of the ebay help pages where ebay collects, anthing over 150euros then customs collects I guess on arrival.

Maybe spain has a rule like this now?

Re: Anyone sold to Spain recently?

This is probably it. My Spain buyer's two orders have a similar price range as what you described.
