Someone just messaged me with a sob story and a screenshot of "new address". Please make sure you know who payed for your item by double checking its name. Don't fall for such scams.
Be safe!

yes, that scam has been around for quite sometime, but it is always nice to see it refreshed for newer sellers..

I also had someone try to scam me. They sent an e-mail saying they received a jewelry lot from me that was damaged & said sending it back was very expensive but they would accept a partial refund. This person has never bought anything from me before. They e-mailed me using one of my current listings with the heading request return. I told them I had never sold them any items & the item that they were asking about had not even been sold yet. This person is a long time buyer. Wonder how many people they have tried to scam. Needless to say I blocked them.

Thank you for sharing this.
I had an odd one today that has raised some red flags. Perhaps someone can share some insight. I sold and shipped a book last Thursday November 19th with tracking to the USA. This was sold to a new ebayer with no other transaction history. As always I upload the tracking # and message the buyer a thank you. Estimated arrival is December 23 to December 31 to cover any delays however it should arrive well before.
Yesterday November 24 the buyer opened up a claim through paypal directly. First opening it up as an unauthorized transaction however they subsequently changed the reason to Item Not Recieved. The tracking was also in paypal so I'm not sure how you could open up a INR through paypal when the tracking clearly shows that the item is still in transit and more importantly it has only been 3 business days from the date of sale and shipment.
My gut tells me that the buyer tried the INR through ebay but was told that they have to wait for the last possible delivery date first which would be December 31 so they opened up a claim through paypal. I responded to the claim with paypal and advised them of the tracking #. Let's see how this plays out.
Anyone have any experience with the above or is it possible that there is more to this than what I am seeing?

As you've found out, Paypal doesn't have the same restrictions as ebay of when a case can be opened. If you haven't already, I would probably try to contact PP directly and ask if they are going to put the case on some sort of hold since it has only been in transit a few days. I don't know how long they will wait in a situation like this.
I haven't read all of the info on the link that I'm posting but you might want to consider redirecting your package back to you if possible.

I don't understand how it could be an unauthorized transaction and then changed to an inr. The first case is opened through their credit card although Paypal handles it. The second is opened through Paypal. I would ask PP about that as well.

This person is a long time buyer.
Check the feedback.
If there is a gap-- for example, if the FB is all from a year or more ago-- there is a very good chance that the account has been abandoned and then hijacked.
It's also useful to check the FB left for others by buyers. There can be some pink flags there if not red ones.

Yes, and in theory, if there has been a chargeback (unauthorized purchase) then PP will not entertain a Dispute. And if there has been either a PP or a card dispute, eBay will not entertain a Dispute either.
The idea being to prevent double-dipping.
