Blackouts are back - day of no sales

Noticed an Ebay phenomena yesterday - this account had almost no sales, by noon there was one. Also had one 1-day auction that normally goes for $13-$15 and attracts plenty bids, started from $0.99 with free ship worldwide and in the evening 1hr to the end and no watchers and no bids, so I took it down. Yet another ebay account was sizzling way above average.

Also searched for my items on .COM and they were there.

This morning it returned back to norm, this account has sales, one that was on steroids yesterday has slowed down.

I am sure Ebay was tinkering with something.

I had no sales yesterday, and none today so far. I usually have at least a couple.

It seems to be the "new" eBay.  I think we just have to get used to the occasional "black holes" or "dead zones".

See my other thread regarding international day I ricarmicland - yesterday I had zero North American sales, everything that was sold was outside north America.... don't know if you usually have international sales or not but if you don't then your experience is similar to mine yesterday....today is more normal a variety of locations....N/A and outside N/A

You're right Rose, this is the New eBay.

I started to notice the trend was shifting in my category last February.

Black Holes, Dead Zones, will rear their ugly heads a lot more often.

There are so many listing, so many choices & the buyers disposable income only goes so far.

For as long as I can remember, all the regulars have weathered the storm.

Blackouts are back - day of no sales

Very strange! I had what was one of my best months both on my store and my non-store accounts right up until Jan 28th. Since then, nothing, no sales, no payments on items already bought, nothing happening on either account for the past 3 days. And I've been listing a lot of new items too. Something odd is going on, especially since I'm not receiving any payments either, although that could just be a coincidence I guess.

No sale days are a natural occurrence....no matter what you sell...

Out of a total of 365 days in any given year  I have had 35 and more no sale days.....  10 % and more.

Yet sales  are better than ever.....

Day-to-day traffic is relatively  constant.   I do get spikes  in traffic when someone finds me and does a major search in one topic within the store

People will visit  a listing over and over again... and then someone buys.

It takes time for people to decide... the no sale days.

and then purchases sometimes come in floods....

In 2013 sales were very good in spite of the change in shipping to the US.

New categories of inventory were pursued....  and they sold....

New inventory is constantly being added to eBay....  that is critical

And..... stale, low selling inventory disappeared....

Constantly working and reworking the inventory on eBay...  and sales keep on coming.... some months better than others... but in the end... each of the last two years, 2012 and 2013  has been about the same in number of sales and dollar value of sales.

and everything was happening  ... in spite of changes in postal options and the cost of shipping, particularly to the US and then internationally, with Canada Post

Blackouts are back - day of no sales

Hi dvd... this trend has been continuing, I have noticed on my mailing days, virtually all are international, then the next day most are USA then the next day most are Canada.....there must be some sort of rotation amongst the various venues..... as long as something is strong on a given day that is the important part!

I have been having off days for 12 years. How is this new? Then I have banner days. So?

At the end of the month, my averages are all the same, month after month.

Hi Mr.E... if you were responding to my latest update to this post.... I didn't say I was having off days, only that on a disproportionate number of days the number of buyers tend to be predominantly either US or Canada or International which leads me to believe there is some sort of cycling.....other days it is a mixed bag of locations...

Things to consider....based on a personal view of things

(1) If you sell in US dollars,  Canadian Buyers must now pay 10 % more in 2014 than 2013

(2) US buyers   have adjusted to the high cost of shipping from Canada to the US... and are buying more in 2014  than the same time period in 2013

Two things that have been considered in 2014 compared to 2013....

New realities...

Changes in what you sell

How you price...

The change in competition..

Things are constantly changing....   There are so many variables to consider...

There will be days with no sales... there will be days with lots of sales.....  but in the end after 12 months....

Will there be a difference?

Come back here on December 31, 2014....
