Buyer Accidentally Left 1-Star Feedback

A buyer informed me that they accidentally put 1 star (or possibly stars) when leaving feedback on a recent purchase. They even said that their comments should deflect any concerns over their satisfaction with the transaction. Given that they have this in writing and their positive comments contradict the star(s) they left, I was wondering if anything can be done on the back end (or by formal request of the buyer?) to revise this somehow.

Based on my preliminary search, I gather that there's probably nothing that can be done, but could tyler@ebay please confirm that for me? (I know they're on vacation, but I'm posting this now so I don't forget later.) Thanks.

Hi @nostalgicaftertaste - Back now, and can definitely confirm that @pjcdn2005 is correct: a revision covers only the rating left, and can only be sent for a neutral or negative feedback. The DSRs are supplemental info to help feedback be more useful than it was (trying to give you some indication of how customers would rate certain aspects of their interaction with you).

We haven't considered DSRs in your performance or standing with us in quite some time, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I agree with the overall sentiment from PJ, Recped and Femme: it's not something we'd hold against you, and your overall stars look great. 🙂

Yes, they can revise their feedback. You can also call Customer Service.

A buyer cannot revise positive feedback. I don't think that most buyers (or ebay) pay any attention to a sellers stars plus yours look great anyway. I wouldn't worry about it.

^^^^^ This

You only have one star at 4.9 (shipping time), nobody will notice and nobody will care.

It's possible it's happened before but you never knew because nobody told you.

Neither feedback nor  Detailed Seller Ratings have any effect on your status with eBay.

Most buyers do not understand feedback and almost none understand DSRs.

Thank him politely and move on.

Thanks for chiming in, everyone. I was concerned because I recall reading that 1-star ratings have an impact on your metrics behind the scenes and could show up as a defect. I'll be glad to be wrong about that, because that's the only reason why I wanted to see if anything can be done about it.

Yeah, I'm 99% sure that was a consequence of the strike last year.

Even when eBay did consider DSR's you had to be below 4.4 for it to matter to them.

In the entire history of DSR's I'm not sure I ever had 5's across the board.

I do remember when dsr's started and were used by eBay as part of the qualification for fvf discounts that some sellers insisted on blocking buyers who left anything less than a 5.

As you can imagine buyers didn't enjoy being blocked because they gave a 4 instead of a 5.
