Canada Post fuel surcharge increases Sept 6

Domestic is up 0.50% (to 14%)

International is up 0.25%

for September 6 to October 3

https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/cpc/en/support/kb/sending/rates-dimensions/fuel-surcharges-on...

This might make the flat rate boxes a better deal for some shipments, since they have no fuel surcharge.

Good point on the flat rate boxes.

Just doesn't seem right that there is no fuel surcharge with USPS while we get the "luxury" of a .25 % to .50 % fuel surcharge increase. Mind you US sellers have their tracked envelops go up by whopping 2 cents.

Do you monitor it closely enough to remember the last time the fuel surcharge went down with CP?

From ShippingEasy website. Note: Information accurate as of Dec 2019.

2020 FedEx Shipping Rate Changes and UPS Updates | ShippingEasy

What is a fuel surcharge?

A fuel surcharge is a flexible addition to shipping costs that compensates postal companies for the fuel their trucks use during deliveries. Everyone receives these surcharges with their shipping costs. Generally, the fuel surcharge is between 4% and 7%.

USPS Fuel Surcharge

Don’t forget to consider the United States Post Office.
USPS® package services is the exception to the rule, as
the USPS does not pass on fuel surcharge fees for any
of their services.

FedEx Fuel Surcharge

For 2020: A 4.9 percent average increase has been about standard for what we’ve seen from FedEx over the past few years, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to many who’ve been shipping FedEx for any substantial amount of time. While there aren’t any specifics yet, the popular FedEx One Rate service will also experience a change. As of this writing, there’s no indication of what that change will be.

UPS Fuel Surcharge

UPS uses a similar formula as FedEx but they calculate their fuel costs on a few different criteria, such as price per 1000 liters of fuel and the price of jet fuel. For 2020 the percent varies between 6 and 7.5 % depending on the service.

While FedEx has a scheduled change and period of time in which their fuel surcharge changes, UPS changes theirs every month around the same time. If you are unsure when that change happens, you may want to check the website.

As per Pitney Bowes:

Additional fees portion is an interesting read for anyone considering using UPS as a shipping option.

2020 saw a steady drop in the fuel surcharge with CP. Mostly increases in 2021 as the cost of fuel went back up from the pandemic lows of 2020.  Gas at my local pump is up about 40 cents/litre compared to a year ago.

The problem with old links, is out of date info.

FedEx adjusts their fuel surcharges weekly.

Domestic (Canada) fuel surcharge this week is 15.75% with International in the 8.50-9.00% range.

UPS adjusts their fuel surcharges weekly.
