Didn't Notice Canada Post Rate Increase! Uh oh. Help!

I totally overlooked the Canada Post rate increase (effective today) and just dumped a bunch of small packets and light packets into the red mailbox (postage paid for with postage stamps).  Is there a grace period, or will all my mail get rejected??

Wouldn't that be the same as dumping them in the box yesterday and having it emptied out today? Yer okay. Well, okay postage wise. The rest of "okay" y'all have to check a mirror.

The packages will probably only be looked at by machines.

And all the machines look for is tagging.

Unless one of the postal workers is a philatelist and decides to count out the value of the stamps. Unlikely.

There was a scam at one point that played on this. The mark answered a classified ad that said "Mail all your letters for a penny. Send for details!" The return letter was indeed stamped with a penny stamp-- one that was tagged. The letter sold a $20 or $50 dollar "license" to use penny stamps. The fancier scammers would include an official looking document, frameable, and might give an expiry date.

Of course, eventually, the mark would be asked into the local postmaster's office for a chat.
