Just got a notification this morning that eBay couldn't verify my identity and that my payments are on hold until I upload documents. Looking for your thoughts on what documents will give them the least amount of my personal info, while still satisfying the criteria required (name and birthdate I believe).
Thanks.

When I was "welcomed" to MP I provided my Drivers License...... I believe passport number is another one folks can use. Not sure which is most "revealing" of the two.....

Did the notification include a list of official documents that were acceptable? That is the usual requirement for anything needing POI. Still finding it difficult to believe after all these month(s) this is still quagmire to resolve.
Re: "Welcomed". Possibly for some, but not for all. It may have be simpler if eBay had asked for exactly 1 lb of flesh to enroll. Apologies. Shakespeare flashback.

Are you already using a low fee online bank that is not connected to your other accounts?

I'm thinking I will submit my health card (Ontario), and just cover up the health card number. There's not much other info on there aside from my photo and the expiry date. Definitely not sending photos of my passport. I'm going to do some reading up on their data retention policies though because I'm not too keen on them keeping photos of my personal documents in perpetuity.

Yeah it said Driver's license, passport or government-issued ID could be submitted. I have until the 20th of April to submit, so I'm not rushing to send anything over today. Want to do some reading first on their privacy policy, because I'm really not keen on them storing data-sensitive personal documents in perpetuity - especially given the technical glitches and other problems I've experienced on the platform thusfar.

Not currently. I originally joined eBay with their 100k free listing promo to sell a bunch of stuff from my house. It's mostly been sports cards, as i have a lot of those, but there have been some other odds and ends too.
Because I didn't see it as a long term thing, I saw no need to go through the hassle of creating a seperate bank account. I keep tabs on my account balance daily, so if my account were to be suddenly improperly charged, I would be alerted almost instantly and would deal with it appropriately.

Unfortunately not in the cards. The form is making me upload an image/scan.

I registered a US$ account that was with my existing "big 5" bank, and I logged in to my bank and eBay verified information from there, so I did not upload anything.

Supplying a soon to expire passport works, esp. if one has no intention of renewing said document

First of all most of the oversight of identification is done by robots. No person cares, you are not that important.
The one thing that is important is your bank account.
Using a separate account for eBay (or for online generally) dealings means that eBay cannot use any of the funds in an attached household or savings account, which could mean the rent cheque bounces.
Your DL, health card, or even passport are seen by dozens of actual human beings every year.
Bank accounts are much more secure from identity theft.
