From A Buyer's Perspective

Hello,

At the beginning of December I purchased for my daughter a video that was hard to find from Australia. At the same time, I purchased a 2nd video. These were hopefully for Christmas, but I didn't worry if it came in after, my daughter would love them no matter what.

Well, after Christmas it was. The 2nd video came in alone which was odd since I purchased the first at the same time. Okay, I told myself, maybe it's a stock thing, so I waited. January came and went, still no video. Finally, I contacted the seller and said refund me, I haven't received the video, I've given lots of extra time and I need to now find it somewhere else. Seller responded asking me to give it more time. Soon, according to Pay Pal, I would run out of time to do anything about it. Felt the whole thing was strange, so went to the resolution centre and filed a claim. Nothing... so I then decided to escalate it. I won and Pay Pal refunded me. Nothing more from the seller.

A few days passed and the video suddenly arrived! It was okay, no damage. So since I received the product I ordered, I felt it was only fair to send the seller the money for the transaction. I did so through Pay Pal so I know he got it. Did he acknowledge my honesty and the receipt of the money? No...

Did I expect parades and confetti? No. But a simple "I am in receipt of the money and glad you did receive the product. Thank you."  would have been nice. Courtesy, makes the world go around, folks, or at least the world of eBay...

Lots of time has passed... You got the Paypal refund..

You paid for the video a second time....

It the parcel was insured, this has now put the seller into a situation....  He has the insurance claim and your payment.

You did your thing... Now what does the seller do?...

Sometimes one has to let it go  and be glad it worked out for you.

--------------------------------

There will always be situations such as

You mail the parcel  to Germany and it returns in two months.....Not deliverable.... Buyer said nothing

or

You mail the parcel to Saudi Arabia  and it comes back  six months later....Buyer said nothing....

What do you do in both of these situations?...  Should one make a refund?  Nobody filed a non-receipt of purchase....  Is the buyer dead?  Now what?

Many years ago this also happened... a third time.... and many times  this situation has been noted on the US discussion boards.

and then there are situations where there is no tracking... buyer files for a non-receipt... gets a refund... and.. the parcel...

and... sometimes there is no right thing to do....Nobody loses... Nobody wins...  only the reality of mail-order selling

I too would have expected an acknowledgment and a thank you for repayment from the seller as many buyers would not have bothered to do as you did. As you said, a thank you goes a long way.

Regarding cumo's point....I might have contacted the seller first to see if he did want repayment just in case he had already been reimbursed and/or didn't want the repayment.

You did the right thing. It would have been common courtesy for the seller to at least say "Thank You".

I wouldn't be buying from that seller again.  The lack of courtesy will come back to bite him with loss of potential future business.
