Have you ever had a listing cancelled by eBay? Were you able to get a explanation why it was pulled? Did you agree or disagree with the explanation you got? Were you able to modify the listing and relist to make it acceptable?

No, but I had one that was rejected from International Site Visibility because it was a diecast version of the Cars character Carlos Maserati and ebay.co.uk somehow thought I was selling a counterfeit actual Maserati car as opposed to a legit diecast. This was something, however, it took me many months of head-scratching to figure out on my own. Ebay Customer Service at the time was utterly clueless and went so far as to try and tell me that couldn't tell me what part was in violation like it was Top Secret.

You might be further ahead if you can explain a bit about the listing that was cancelled to the users here. They might have better advice than me based on their shared experience.

Had a musical cowbell pulled awhile back. They weren't happy with the category I chose. I just used the one there were 10 other listed in at the time and figured it was good to go. As you noted for your item, when I called eBay, they had no real explanation. Just relisted it under another category that had other cowbells and it was now acceptable. Unfortunately in the original category it had watchers. 2nd item I had pulled was a hand crafted jewelry box made in that island off the coast of Florida with the capital that starts with H. (I don't want to have the bots upset with me for saying the name) It was considered a prohibited item. Most likely brought back by a Canadian tourist. At various times there are cigar boxes from the same country also listed that have no issues. Just seems like these incidents can happen entirely by accident with no actual harm intended. Very difficult to be 100% knowledgeable on every item one lists.

Suggested the question so none of us would make the same error accidentally at risk of a firing squad.

When it looks like a case of fine-for-some-sellers-but-not-for-others, I almost always suspect a competitor Reported you because what other explanation is there to being singled-out in a sea of also-in-violations? Just do as ebay says, stick it in another Category.
As to the capital-that-start-with-an-H cigar box, no. Maybe you can sell it within Canada but not outside of it due to the embargo. I'm not up-to-date on all the details of embargoes, it might be looser now in the USA than it had been 40 years ago. I found a page once that talked about exactly what items Canadians are not allowed to export due to embargoes and political action against other countries of the world but I wouldn't be able to find it again. It rarely pertains to my line of product or places I ship it.

It was part of Foreign Affairs Canada, I think. This web page to which I'm referring. Maybe it's called Global Affairs now. I live in blissful ignorance of deals such as this.

Believe that is what happened with the cowbell. Was caused by a competitor. I think in those cases instead of outright cancelling and removing them, the listing should be frozen with the opportunity to correct it if possible. It may have been just an honest mistake. As for the gift box I was told I could not even sell it with the specification of only selling to another Canadian. At the time I just thought it was petty.

"As for the gift box I was told I could not even sell it with the specification of only selling to another Canadian. At the time I just thought it was petty." I would check that with ebay Canada. Listed in CAD on ebay.ca selling only to Canada? We did not pick sides in that particular fight.

Yes, way back when.
I listed a pre-Israel 'free passage' document from whoever was in charge there at the time, and learned you can't sell passports.
Still have the paperwork.

Police issued boots.
Even supplied a photo of the inside of boot clearly showing the RCMP officers name.
I understood the explanation given, relisted with no mention of the RCMP.

Yes. There are plenty of ways to run afoul of the site police ... once had a very nice WW2 service medal issued to an ordinary German soldier for doing his duty, nothing sinister about it but because the item carried a tiny symbol of a certain party the listing was cancelled within minutes. Made a second try at listing it with just a vanilla title and some photos but that one was quickly ended too. Eventually all turned out well though as I found a private party collector willing to pay a very fair price.
The passport and identification papers restrictions don't seem to apply to the older documents from the 1950s and earlier, at least those listings don't seem to disappear. Using the word ivory in a title usually attracts unwanted attention too.

Mine are from the 1940s. And I did not use the word "passport".
There were fewer items listed in those days, so I may try it again, listing it under Judaica as a category.

Sure. There are algorithm driven takedowns that sometimes screw up. The other thing is anyone can basically file a Vero claim if they want to jump through the hoops needed to do so. You sometimes get brands (through the 3rd parties they hire for this) not aware of their global licensing deals or get competitors being jerks and filing false claims. I might see 1 or 2 a year based off thousands of listings over the course of the year.

Years ago while listing items furiously, I listed an item that was already up. It was taken down, and I received a deserved tongue lashing, and told to not do it again.
I guess I've been lucky.

I sell in ebay motors. There's a part in some performance cars called a Limited Slip Differential. All car guys will say LSD with a straight face. But you can't use that legitimate abbreviation on the nancy ebay site.
