I was able to crunch some numbers today (yeah, a sale to the USA).

This sample data uses tier 1 rates for Solutions for Small Business (the higher levels have better rates).

Conclusion:

eBay rates via Shippo are best for Small Packet USA

For Tracked Packet or Expedited USA best is Canada Post's Snap Ship for the July 15% bonus discount. Starting August 1 eBay/Shippo will be the best.

Lettermail and Light Packet are just over-the-counter or stamped choices.

101-200g .. 5.15 O/S lettermail
000-200g .. 6.84 Light Packet

Wait, are you the member who always has an eye on the CPC fuel surcharge? I'd assumed it was ydpc_dennis since he knows the pricing inside-out and backwards, but maybe it's always been you who posted about changes to the fuel surcharge. My apologies if that is the case, as I now suspect it may be. And thank you for the clarification and elaboration.

No, I do not keep an eye on the fuel surcharge. I just know it exists and have a browser bookmark to the page for years. When something about the fuel surcharge comes up I just post the link and make my comment about what is being discussed.

The Canada Post web site changes so often (more than the postage rates, LOL) it is is very difficult to navigate on that site to find anything. CP site is one of the most confusing web sites to navigate in my opinion. Fortunately the actual web page URLs have not changed much if at all over the years and I have learned to save CP web pages in a browser bookmark folder in FireFox. I can find web pages I need quickly in my bookmarks which I have renamed to meaningful names.

I`m thinking it might be the 5 cents that they charge us for each transaction taken off to show us the actual shippo shipping cost without their fee, but who cares anyways it`s only a few pennies

There is no Shippo fee when using the eBay rate, eBay covers the fee.

If you buy labels for non-eBay sales there is a Shippo fee (something I've not bothered with since those labels do not get a special rate).

The rates shown at the start are for July -- Expedited and Tracked have fuel surcharge adjustments every month that can change those values. Also, the rates shown are those for sellers who are at the Solutions for Small Business level one pricing level.

Update for this thread:

Starting last month PayPal is the same rate as Shippo for Small Packet Air (USA and International).

I hope that the shipping calculators on ebay could be used in conjunction with

shippo rates instead of CP rates

I had to manually adjust the shipping rates to same cost for some ads and enter the amounts,

still not done

If the shippo rates go up in the New Year I would have to adjust my ads again.

eBay uses the Canada Post counter rates for calculated shipping.

eBay does not know if you are going to use Shippo to buy your labels.

Also, the Shippo rates are based on your Canada Post Solutions for Small Business rates (which have 4 different levels of discount based on your last 12 months of label purchases).

Although, it might be possible for eBay add a check box for the seller to indicate if they are buying the label online and to use the basic level Canada Post website label price (usually cheaper than over the counter) for calculated shipping. Balanced against more programming to go wrong.

Since this is an old out-of-date thread, a small update...

eBay rates via Shippo have additional discounts (over the Canada Post Solutions for Small Business rates) for:

Canada - Expedited Parcel

USA - Small Packet, Tracked Packet, Expedited Packet

International - Small Packet Air

PayPal has additional discounts for Small Packet Air (USA and International).

Everything else will be same as your regular Solutions for Small Business rate on the Canada Post website.

... waiting for the Canada Post December announcements of the 2018 rates.

Do not over think it.

Your actual cost to mail is Canada Post rate + eBay fee on shipping + PayPal fee on shipping + cost of packaging.

I look at the discounted rate versus the CP rate as covering part of that additional cost. The only time I do adjustments is when using Small Packet Air -- I can use a flat rates for that and the additional discount of around 20% gives me significant pricing space.

Canada Post rates will go up in 2018 (the eBay calculator will handle that). Whether the Shippo additional discounts will remain the same or change is another matter.

Should be around until the next price change (January 15) kicks in.

Whether the deep discount continues, changes or goes away is still an unsolved mystery.

Case in point -- yesterday I did a label using Shippo for a moderately large sized box weighing almost 3 kg, going to the mid-U.S. and the Expedited USA cost was $24.97 (CDN). I was very pleasantly surprised, as I'd expected the total to be closer to $40 CDN. Since the order was paid in $US, the cost in relation to the ca. $250 US order was quite low, which I was glad of as the buyer received my multi-item free shipping promo.
