I had to send a package to the USA very recently - it was to big to send through the mail - so I sent it using UPS.

UPS - what a piece of .

It was a vintage grandfather clock radio worth over $1000.00 and was sent from Alberta to Chicago - the UPS shipping rate was $245.00 ($40.00 extra for weight overage). I warned the buyer that it was going to be a dicey move.

I packed it extremely well - a heavy duty box and 3 inches of syrofoam around the whole thing, plus I removed all the tubes and send them separately.

UPS promised they would ship it in an upright position - ya right - I knew that was bull from the start.

It was covered with fragile stickers.

It took me 5 hours to pack it - but they would not insure it because they did not pack it.

Don't even bother me with the brokerage fees the guy likely paid.

It arrived broken - of course.

The chassis had broken loose from the frame - it was very obvious that it had been drooped the back of a  truck - more than once.

When I checked the tracking, It had bounced around Alberta - then went to the US and then to Winnipeg and then back to the US and judging from the number of scans, arrivals and departures I figure it was on at least 17 different trucks before it was delivered.

Oh Ya - UPS is just great.

Thanks - at least the guy who bought it has been decent about it. - at least so far.

He sent me pictures of the damage and I told him how to repair it; or, if he did not feel up to it I found a couple of people near him that could. That was a few days ago and I have not heard back from him yet.

I actually advertised the radio on Kijiji - I was only advertising it in Alberta, but somehow he saw it and has been after me to buy it since last spring. I really did not want to pack that monster and ship it as it it 5 feet tall and one foot square and weighs 80 lbs. But he kept badgering me and I gave in.

I wish him well with it - I suppose things might have been much different had I sold it on eBay.
