i have sold shoes on ebay and they have gone to someone first to be checked for authenticity before going to the buyer no problems. i recently sold a pair to someone in Mexico and using eBay labels, i used the choice given and sent them just like before. this time they didn't go to someone first to be checked for authenticity, they went directly to the buyer. i dropped the shoes off at Canada Post not even realizing there was no tracking, i just got a receipt for the drop off. They did tell me it was ground, and that was January 24th. On Febuary 8th the buyer opened a refund claim stating the shoes were never shipped and wanting a refund. Ebay has now sided with the buyer and given the buyer a full refund. Sometimes I wait a month or more for items on Ebay! How does this happen?  What can I do?  it's only been just over 2 weeks and i think they'll get there any time now but now i'm out shoes and fees. Help. i truly don't know what to do.

i dropped the shoes off at Canada Post not even realizing there was no tracking,

You will not win an Item Not Received dispute without the a proof of  delivery that tracking gives you.

, i just got a receipt for the drop off.

Is there a number , any number, on that receipt?

Use it.

You  won't be worse off.

that was January 24th. On Febuary 8th the buyer opened a refund claim

That's fast for Ground service to Mexico.  What window did eBay allow you for delivery?

If the buyer has already been refunded, there is not much but to hope for a courtesy refund of the money paid to your buyer.

The phone reps do not work for eBay so don't bother with them. They work for a subcontractor out of Utah.

The social media Chat accounts are covered by trained eBay employees with some authority.
And you get a transcript so you can compare what you heard with what you were told.

Give theChat rep the receipt number. Hope that they don't notice you did not pay for a tracked service.

Be very polite.

Fool around with different destinations and weights.

Pay attention to ALL the services and what they offer.

And what they don't offer.

Also, although eBay does not require Signature Confirmation for shipments valued under $750, SC is well worth the $1.75 it costs to ease your mind. You can sell it to your customer as protection for them, but really it protects you.

I understand you must feel terrible mate.

Did you physically  click order has shipped button on Ebay? Is the order in the still awaiting shipment section on your orders page?  Its either the buyer did not know that you shipped the order. Ebay automatically marks order as being shiped IF you buy a shipping lable with tracking numberOR the buyer is trying to scam you.

NEVER pick the cheapest shipping option provided when buying shipping labels for international shipping.  NEVER NEVER ship any order without tracking  period. Its your insurance policy to prove delivery.

You probably picked Canada Post International Parcel (Non-US) - Surface 30-90 Business Days Probably cheapest option offered. It DOES NOT offer tracking. 2 weeks to Mexico by surface is really fast.

Also Avoid the following; Both are the cheapest options and DO NOT offer tracking.

Small Packets - International (Non-US) - Air  6-10 business days OR Canada Post International Parcel (Non-US) - Air 6 - 10 business days.

You NEED to pick Canada Post Tracked Packet - International (Non-US) 6-10 business days OR one of the FedEx services. These options are extortionately expensive but they offer full tracking.

I know the shipping titles sound the same.

I don't sell outside of Canada/US becaue no buyer is going pay those extortionate shipping fees for tracking. They always run when I quote the expensive tracked shipping fees to whatever country they are in.

There is nothing else you can do you need to prove delivery with a tracking number which you don't have. Chalk this up as a expensive learning experience.

  Thanks,

It was my fault, the 2 shipping titles looked identical.  I trusted eBay to be sending my shoes to an authenticator, the usual process, but that trust is broken now, they shipped it direct. Too late on my end, shipped without checking the label. But without the authenticator, their high end shoe auctions are over, no one will want to sell through here anymore.  Thanks again for the response and i'll keep that in mind if i decide to sell on eBay ever again.

Cheers.

I wonder if the lack of authentication had something to do with shipping to Mexico? Maybe that program only applies to the USA and Canada.

I think you hit the nail on the head.  Section 4 of the Terms and Conditions states that sneakers sold by Canadian sellers have to be delivered within Canada:

Actually the authenticity program is fir sneakers shipped to Canada and the US. The wording is a bit odd on that page but it is clearer here.

To be eligible sneakers must be:

  • sold on eBay.ca to a buyer address in Canada or the United States

https://www.ebay.ca/help/selling/selling-tools/ebay-authenticity-guarantee?id=4644&st=3&pos=1&query=...

For a $700 item they should have used a service with signature, tracking and insurance regardless of where it was being shipped.  But that is a lot of money to be out, I do feel bad for them.

Yes, I found that wording weird, too, and thought it was strange that Canadians wouldn't be able to sell to the US market through the program as we're very dependent on that larger market to make a decent go of it.

Unfortunately for the seller, it's pretty clear that sales to Mexico are not covered in this program.  Mistakes and missteps are part of the learning curve on eBay, but it's sad that this particular lesson cost them a fair chunk of change.
