Hi everyone,
Firstly, I want to know what people think of Managed Payments. I am a little worried about how vague the information is regarding it and, more specifically, the fees associated with it. How will it effect defects relating to refunds? I always used to issue refunds directly through PayPal, avoiding a lot of defects. It seemed to be fairly random; sometimes, eBay's system would pick up on it. Sometimes, it would not. As a seller, my customer service is very good, so I issue refunds whenever a buyer is somewhat upset, as my items are less than $8.00 in value. I am worried that if I continue to do this, eBay will punish me with defects as I will have to do everything via Managed Payments.
Secondly, I went to look into signing up, and it asked me if I want to change my "Private Account" into a "Business Account." I have never seen this before. What does that mean? I sell a fair bit of items and have never had any issues (not enough to pay sales tax). Should I switch my account. Is there any difference?
How does everyone else feel about these changes? I am not sure whether to be happy or afraid.
All the best,
Adam

I'm pretty sure I had to at one point. Last year, I was talking to eBay customer service and the "supervisor" asked me for my DOB for verification after I escalated the call to him. When I gave him my DOB, he said it was wrong. Knowing eBay customer service, he could have made it up off the top of his head (he was angry at this point) but it got me looking into how to change my account DOB, and I never found out how. If Tyler could speak to this that would be great.

Although this is for .COM/USA sellers and I am not sure how different the MP plan will be for .CA/Canadian sellers, there is still some good information coming out of this .COM discussion:

You mean like this little gem from May 2, 2020 on dot com. It would be nice if more of the actual policy information for dot ca was available NOW so we could know what we will be facing in advance.

@bar-29368 Today we bill you monthly, later this year fees will be deducted and we will send you the net proceeds. Some items will continue to be billed monthly like store fees, but the seller will not have the option to choose to receive all proceeds, including fees and then pay them monthly.

or the fact that the FVFs (category based) are on total transaction that includes item price, shipping costs & any applicable USA internet sales tax...

Or how fees can vary and compound depending on the applicable FVF's % and then the taxes as Canadians we pay on those fees. See post 32 et al for a US perspective. Even the various State Sales Tax or very high shipping on an item could affect total fees owed. Almost impossible to recover. Hopefully, I have expressed that properly. It gives me a major headache even to process it in my mind!!

PS. Not like eBay is not charging the taxes to states where the items are exempt according to rules in the various states.

I am keeping tabs on all this MP stuff even though I have never had any intention of accepting that route...been down that road before...left Etsy back in 2017 when that site forced all sellers to sign up with the Etsy Payment system(Adyen), or no longer be allowed to sell there...my plan of action was set up a year ago for my exit from eBay on that final day for signing up to MP here...My other selling venue is my focus now as sales there have been increasing over the past few months...

MP has been in the making since eBay & PayPal split several years ago... eBay is doing what is best for the site...same as Etsy did...
Sellers come...sellers go...the number of sellers that actually leave the site will be a very small percentage...
There will be little impact for eBay on the small numbers of sellers that will leave...
(we will never be missed!!...)

I was expecting pay-as-you-go FVF and payment processing fees as this is how Etsy handles billing, with them it's kinda fuzzy as to how the various charges are calculated ... hope ebay will separate the varrious components ie; fvf, payment processing, currency exchange.

Sorry if I was unclear. I more meant that my eBay DOB is possibly incorrect, and I can't find a way to change it or even view it. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I don't remember ever giving eBay my date of birth. I can understand MP needing to know for financial legal reasons.
Someone with ebay insider connections might know --
Thanks for the tag @ypdc_dennis!
Hi @supersavingsstore - we stopped asking for date of birth when registering an account on eBay awhile ago. That's why that information isn't visible any longer.
I did check with the managed payments folks and they let me know that if there is a discrepancy they would contact you and help you get it corrected before activation. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, Tyler. I appreciate the information, and I don't have to worry about the DOB issue anymore.
I wonder why the "manager" asked me for my DOB on the phone. I never remembered giving it when I signed up, so he may of just been trying to get me off the phone, and it worked. Pretty much how most conversations with eBay on the phone go...

Hi @supersavingsstore - if you were talking to a managed payments teammate it's possible they were following their process (I'm not privy to that I'm afraid). If you were speaking with a regular teammate then that would definitely be unusual.
Either way I know that payments will require you to provide a bit more information than you may be used to as they get you pre-registered. Thanks for hanging in there and let me know if you encounter anything else odd. 🙂

What a bunch of rubbish this is. Ebay's MP is just another cash grab for its coffers. The payouts don't give you control and I have no idea which processor was used to close the sale.
EBAY WHERE is your **bleep** transparency and ETHICS.

You can change the payout schedule from weekly to daily, or vice versa.
