Hi All,  I haven't sold on eBay in a number of years.  Can anyone tell me what the deal is with the selling limits?  When the heck did this happen and why was it implimented?

Selling limits? What the heck?

It's a Protection for both buyers and sellers.

New (and returning and occasional) sellers are protected against losing too much in  "text me" scam, for example , while buyers are protected when a crook puts up listings that are too good to be true because they are neither good nor true.

This also helps with hijacked accounts.

And that in turn protects eBay's reputation as a safe marketplace.

So you will have a limit on the number and value of your listings until you prove yourself again.

You can appeal the restrictions every 30 days.

This might help.

Just being signed up for Managed Payments is a start.

But if you haven't sold in several years, you will find a lot of changes.  When did you last sell?

Hi Femmefan,

Thanks so much!  I completely understand the protection for both buyers and sellers.  I'll have to do a bit more research into the length of time etc.

I haven't sold for approx 15 ish years? I think the last time i bought was about 10 years ago.  I totally get eBay's hesitancy at seeing the activity again.

Thanks again!

Angela

Yep, it is a bit of a process with the limit going up each month.  The first 3 months can feel long!!!!

The first step is to get signed up for Managed Payments.

You will need a chequing account with a Canadian bank for that.

EBay no longer uses Paypal as their payment processor.

You DON'T have to give them your SIN- that's voluntary- but they required another ID, like a passport or Driver's license.

It's my hope that the tougher standards for opening a selling account will make some selling scams more difficult. We'll see.
