I am just wondering whether everyone has signed up for managed payments? Is it already working. I have hesitated as my money goes into a US bank account and wonder how that is going to work? What is the cut off day to sign up and what happens when that day comes around?

Re: Hallucinated Sign Up Gift
Which begs the following questions:
Will the gift be shipped through GSP?
Will It arrive in Mississauga and freeze in its place?
Will the shipper be NARU and disappear never to be seen again and require an INR?
Will it arrive with taxes owing?
Will it arrive damaged and require a NAD report?
If you are said to get a gift from eBay and it doesn't arrive, was it really shipped?
So many questions....So few answers!! Sounds like Managed Payments!!

Registered on one (my primary) selling id.
Not invited to register on any of my other id's including the one I post here with.
Registration was simple but there was a verification issue because of a name mismatch between my SIN and bank/eBay names. I provided a drivers license to cover this.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As far as registering a Savings Account, maybe they exist but I don't know of any Canadian bank that allows direct deposit or debit with Savings Accounts.
For simplicity of bookeeping I also opened a new account (chequing), did it online with one of my regular "banks" (Simplii Financial), took less than 2 minutes.
FYI - Both Tangerine and Simplii (formerly PC Financial) offer no fee online accounts and I'm sure there are others (my CU accounts are fee-free for 60+ or free with minimum balance). Plenty of options out there.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Canadian sellers who list on .com, if in the past you allowed PayPal to process the currency exchange then nothing really changes except you don't get to pick the date of the conversion.
If you retained US Dollars to spend on US goods that will no longer be possible unless you can transfer to A US based bank, since that is not possible at the moment that will represent a change.
I expect eBay will get this part figured out at some point as it's a thing which affects a very large number of sellers including many of the highest volume sellers.
Personally I only list on .ca so I am unaffected.
Analysis shows MP will likely save me a tiny bit of money. no biggie either way.

Once a seller has registered for Managed Payments (MP) that seller has access to a lot of information about MP.
Payments terms of Use ----- a document presenting the many aspects of use of MP...
The terms of use differs among the countries where MP will become a reality.
The following information about linked bank accounts is from this document
"Link a bank account, so you may receive settlements of proceeds from Managed Payments to this bank account ("Linked Bank Account"). The bank account must be based in your country of residence and denominated in your Payout Currency (for example, you must link a US-based chequing account denominated in US Dollars if you reside in the US, or an EEA-based payment account denominated in EUR if you reside in the EU)."
US eBay sellers must have a chequing account...... this was not indicated for Canadian sellers.
The bank document that was submitted with MP registration showed all of my accounts at the Bank. This list included three "chequing "accounts...but only one account is used as a true chequing account. One of these accounts serves as my source of money for everything I do with money....
My MP account is an account where money will be deposited by MP and then be transferred to another account by me. This is the only action... deposit and transfer .... allowed by the Bank, with this account.
I have no link to selling in US dollars on eBay.com.
My registration for MP on eBay Canada is stated as successful.... and I am ready for MP

What sellers want is a MP bank account where there is no charge when money enters or leaves the bank account.

I have not signed up, but watching it very closely as this transition away from Paypal will be interesting.

Another alternative for Managed Payments could be an Online Bank. Examples include Tangerine, EQ Bank and Simplii Financial. Full list, comparisons and details attached.
Pros of online banks - Lower fees, Better Interest Rates, Standard Bank Services, Sign up bonuses
Cons of online banks - No Branches, Cash can be hard to deposit, Fewer one-stop-shop options

Hi @musicyouneed - a few required disclaimers first:
As someone who is not an expert on managed payments I may not be able to address your question in its entirety. If you have been notified to register for managed payments you are able to request a call back from a payments-trained teammate by accessing any of the Help Pages related to payments and using the 'Have us call you' feature at the bottom of the page.
The information provided is accurate as of today's date (6 July 2020) but may become outdated in the future. If you are reading this at a later date please consider checking the Help Pages or request a call back from a managed payments teammate who can provide the most up to date information.
Okay, with that out of the way: I do not believe that the sky will fall on the 16th for you. As near as I can tell (disclaimers above) the 'mandatory' aspects are being rolled out in waves. So some accounts are getting a specific date while others are just being told it's time to register.
Regarding your other question on the US bank account: I'm not sure if that would work. Identity verification requirements change from program to program (US requires their SIN equivalent, US based registration address, as opposed to SIN being optional for the Canada program, etc).
This sounds like a good question for the chat Wednesday, so we can get it to the payments folks and get you some solid info.

Interesting article, but it only has partial coverage of what's available for Canadian no-fee bank accounts. For example, they skip motusbank.ca which also offers a no-fee chequing account.

Got the email today... sign-up for Managed Payments by July15/20.
Hi silverpinups,
Your account is scheduled to be enabled for managed payments in late July, and you must register by July 15th. You only have a week left to register.
If you sell to the US or on the US site directly, we understand that you may want to get paid out in other currencies. We’re working on a solution for this and our goal is to make this transition as seamless as possible. We recommend that you register now to ensure that your information is validated. As a reminder, we will only activate your account for managed payments once the available features match your business needs.
Register now – it’s simple:1. Verify your information
2. Provide a chequing account
3. Continue selling as usual
Register nowWe will notify you of your activation date in advance and all of your information will be kept safe and secure. Information shared during registration allows us to send your payouts and comply with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and know-your-customer obligations, which helps keep eBay a trusted marketplace.
If you have questions, you can request a call from one of our Payments team members on the Help Hub here - we’re here for you.
Running your business is simpler when eBay manages your payments, and buyers have more ways to pay. You can learn more about managed payments on the eBay Seller Centre.
Please click here to register for managed payments now.
Please disregard this message if you have already registered for managed payments.

It appears that US sellers, and people who list in US dollars on eBay.com must have a Chequing Bank Account as a Managed Payments bank account.
It looks like the option to list and sell in US dollars on eBay.com and to have that money get paid out to a US dollar bank account may soon be available to Canadian sellers.
The sooner the better....

I got the same letter, so are you going to register?

They brought out their heavy hitters for today's email warning. To quote....
"Fourth reminder: You are required to register for managed payments by July 15th"

That's how poorly implemented MP is.... they finally give you a date to register one week prior to the deadline. It's pathetic.....
I read on the eBay.com boards today that eBay is apparently offering 50.00USD off sellers invoices if the sign-up by the July10th.
I have a feeling things aren't going so well with MP in eBay Land!!
07-07-2020 07:16 PM
So I will sign up on July 14, the last day.
