Did you figure out what the fees would have been with Paypal?
Assuming that you are referring to the sale that was $115 + $18 shipping...
133.00 x 10% = 13.30 less $1.30 (10% discount on item price only) = 12.00
$12.00 x 13% hst = Total fees paid to ebay $13.56
Fees to PP were based on the total paid including US tax- $140.98
140.98 x 3.7% (2.9% plus .8% as buyer is in the US) + .30 transaction fee = Total fees paid to PP - $5.52
$13.56 + $5.52 = Total ebay and PP fees incl. taxes - $19.08
If I figured this out correctly, in this case the fees with PP would have been slightly more than with MP

I have not listed/nor sold anything on eBay in the past 7 months, but my last invoice (which was when I still had PayPal as a Payment processor), indicated my eBay fees were 15% and most of my items were $20 or less so 16.5% I could still live with...( I may not like it being higher), but that's still better than Amazon fees... and any sales are still better than no sales...

Was the $1.77 Special Promotion the Promoted Listings fee, which is optional and which the seller chooses the percentage she is willing to pay?
I'm not sure that when you tell eBay to charge you an extra fee that you should complain when they do.
But eBay is not your friend, eBay is your landlord.
I have been selling here since 1998, with one ID or another, and have usually thought of eBay fees being 20% of the buyer's payment.
Then when it is lower (usually just under 15% ) I am pleased.
But I have also run B&M shops where half the income or more went to overheads like rent, utilities, taxes, garbage disposal, window washer, insurance, et al.
