Trump To Announce New Tariffs on Canada & Mexico on Monday

Here we go again.  25% tariffs on aluminum and steel, as well as other "products".  Nothing has been specified as to what will be included and excluded in tomorrow's order.  Announcement will be made on Monday.  The president has reiterated that the only way out of tariffs is annexation of sovereign territory.

Donalds Trumps hy·per·bo·le is nothing more than that, and he will get "neutered" real quick when the "plebs"  that put him in power get angry...

The clock continues to wind down on U.S. President Donald Trump's next deadline for imposing sweeping tariffs on Canadian goods. In the meantime, some American lawmakers are pushing the president to back off tariffs altogether — and they hope Canada notices.

"I certainly hope the pause continues," Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said in an interview on Rosemary Barton Live. "But my real hope is some final agreement can be reached. Tariffs are only going to increase prices on the American people and probably on the Canadian people."

Both countries have agreed to stand down on a trade war — for now. On Monday, Trump was set to place 25 per cent tariffs on almost all Canadian goods, which prompted Canada to declare retaliatory tariffs hours later on a slate of American goods.

I'm getting really sick of this stirring the pot that is going on every single day with new orders, changed orders, recinded orders. He never picks something and sticks to it long enough for us to adapt to changes. Not as though I want tariffs to stick, but it's getting tiring to be making changes to my eBay store every day Trump has a new whim of what he wants to do to our country.

My understanding was tariffs were off the table until March 1. If he's announcing new tariffs on us tomorrow this suggests to me that you can't believe anything he says. Seems like the best idea is to just go about life and ignore the politics, but unfortunately his tariffs are affecting our online selling.

I read Trump as saying, ok the tariffs on everything isn't happening so I'll get a bit more targeted....thus he picks the two commodities that already have tariffs from back in Trump 1.0

FYI - Aluminum and Steel combined represent about 5% of our exports to the US (2023). There are three companies that produce aluminum in Canada, none of them are Canadian Owned #2 Alcoa is a US company, #1 Rio Tinto is Brazilian. Virtually all the production is in Quebec so the effects of any Tariffs and consequent slowdowns or subsidies would be at least somewhat localized. Of course you can't forget that 80% of the aluminum produced in North America comes from Canada and there really isn't very many other places that have enough domestic supply to have any leftover to sell to the US.

Iron and steel are different, producers in Canada have been teetering for decades (Stelco, Algoma Steel etc.) which is how Rio Tinto and other were able to take them over at bargain prices.

Things that need lots of aluminum and steel: pipelines and refineries.  Seems to me the problem takes care of itself, and it feels like the momentum is building for all the parties to be in favour of it. Bringing them online also solves Trump's imaginary trade deficit with Canada.

I believe the steel and aluminum tariffs are on all imports from all countries, not just Canada and Mexico.  Not sure what the orange-one is thinking about since the US needs these imports.....if they didn't, they wouldn't be importing them.

Trump said at a super bowl interview that he really wants Canada.    Time to make some molotov cocktails.

Well, not that it has anything to do with selling on ebay specifically but with all this nonsense in the US with this clown i have officially cancelled 2 vactions in the US for this year and will take my money elsewhere. Won't affect them one bit but at least i feel better knowing i am not giving them some of my money. I'm glad i have fewer years left in front of me then behind me at this point but honestly worry for my kids about the current global environment/tension. Anyway, a bit dramtic but felt like blowing off some steam. lol

You know, i feel exactly the same way.  For a while now i've been saying "i'm glad i'm old" because i've lived most of my life in peace and prosperity and in a wonderful nation.  But i fear that is changing and not for the better.  I worry about the young people's future..

I can only hope he is successfully impeached eventually when either republicans grow a pair of balls or when he inevitably gets swamped by a blue wave in the midterms. I’m an American living in Canada for 12 years now and I intend on voting blue straight down the ticket every chance I get until the cult disbands and the politics down south shifts left of center.
