I just got a huge email from eBay called: Update to the User Agreement, Privacy Policy and International Selling Agreement.
Anyone else get one of these?
It is a huge list of responsibilities: It appears that I am responsible for everything and eBay is not responsible for anything.
Oh wait - eBay is also responsible for collecting fees - and I responsible for paying them.
Why am I not surprised.

I did not get such message on either of my two eBay selling accounts.
Are you sure it was from eBay?
Does the message appear in your "My Messages"? or only by email?
02-23-2013 02:07 PM
I received one in my messages and also an email.
02-23-2013 02:51 PM
Yep - got them in both it's full of legaleze and boarder line insulting.
Don't these people think before they act.
02-23-2013 03:29 PM
I also got one to!
02-23-2013 03:36 PM
Yes I got one too and it says we must agree to the policies by March 26/13
So I come to both eBay.ca and eBay.com and read everything again BUT where to I click or send an email to that I accept?
As it says if you don't accept they will cancel your selling portion of your account.
Not that I sell too often but where do I find that???
Went to ask us a question and sends me here ...... where we all are confused.
Not understanding!!!

OK just called Customer Service about this....lady checked and what it is they have just updated a few of the policies and were informing us.
We don't have to do anything as when we started our accounts we already agreed to their policies including any changes.
So basically it's an FYI and we don't have to do anything.
Hopefully she's right! 😐

you have 2 choices:
do nothing and accept everything they say or
don't accept and close your account with Ebay

Yes, I got one too, but have only had time to skim through it. My deepest concern is the portion dealing with eBay's use of personal information for outside marketing purposes, which to me sounds very similar to the kind of database marketing other companies are now doing. In other words, they gather data on their own users and sell it en masse to another entity (who knows what or where) for profit. Perhaps not name, address, etc. but essentially they will be making money from the mere fact that you're present on their site.
This is a huge trend in current marketing, and I have serious issues with it. But what do you do if you want to stay selling on eBay?
02-23-2013 05:11 PM
Got it too
02-23-2013 05:11 PM
It is a huge list of responsibilities: It appears that I am responsible for everything and eBay is not responsible for anything.
Oh yes, I also meant to add that it appears one of those responsibilities is complete liability for one's own username/ID -- what the heck does this mean exactly? I assume it means that I will be liable for fraudulent or wrongful use of my username - OH JOY.
I will definitely be reading this document in detail shortly, but as one poster above has said, it's more or less a "like it or lump it" scenario if you want to keep selling on eBay.

I scanned through that email, there was nothing sensational that would excite me. Usual corporate liability shifting and such. They must have had couple lawsuits so they covered their bottoms. Nothing that would not be already de facto implemented anyway
Noticed the jurisdiction over ebay canada moved from California to Toronto, Ontario. Unless it was already there before and I only noticed it now.

The part about
we must agree to the policies by March 26/13
Is something we could grill er I mean ask the Pinks about on Wednesday.
I couldn't see anywhere to agree either.
02-23-2013 06:14 PM
I have not received the email from eBay yet but a regular poster sent me a copy.
It took a while to read the whole thing.
Conclusion: No big deal.
"I couldn't see anywhere to agree either.
Actually, you automatically agree to the change unless you specify that you do not and close your seller account.
The last paragraph of the covering memo from eBay is clear:
"You do not need to take any further action to accept the updated..."

Now I understand.
Thank You
Strange you didn't receive one.

Over th eyears, I find that delivery of information from eBay is often different from most Canadian users.
It may be related to the fact I am considered a "legacy user": registered on eBay.com in the last century!
For as far as I can remember, eBay.com (eBay Inc) and eBay.ca do not seem to ever get together as to how to handle communications with "legacy users". I had a face-to-face meeting on the subject with senior management of eBay.ca in Toronto back in 2006 and whatever solutions they offered at the time never worked out.
02-23-2013 06:53 PM
got that email too..didn't like the info sharing bit..and pay fees...mmm...what happens when I don't get paid...cause of the deadbeats..huh?
should I become an non paying bidder.......lets change that to non paying seller refusing to pay invoice.....lol
Reinstall the negative and get rid of DSR's

I have been on eBay almost as long as you Pierre, and I got it. Actually, if I had the choice, I would have chosen the promotion!

I got a copy of the notice "The Ebay Team" sent out on my yahoo mail and in the Ebay store site. It does not specify anything. I took the time to read it through. I got the feeling that we Ebay users were the reason these changes were needed. Furthermore the notice urged users to leave Ebay if they did not like whatever "The Ebay Team" put into effect because Ebay users caused the changes made by "The Ebay Team".
There is a few phrases that mentioned taking court action should you feel it necessary. Your case was to be directed to some place in Toronto. It made very little sense to me, but I'm sure the fine print in the actual agreement is easier to comprehend.
I requested forgiveness as I know I've complained to Ebay in the past.
What sort of team is THE EBAY TEAM? Why would this notice not come from a distinctly titled group at Ebay such as Vice President of Policies and Procedures or a specific Board of directors? The use of the title "The Ebay Team" gives off an unprofessional odour. IMO.

Some of the changes may relate more to buyers and the Mobile Application, in relation to selling.
Canada's Privacy act prevents them from spreading our information to anyone.... I am assuming they can do whatever they want as long as they do not violate this Act...
However, there are other aspects of your selling or buying on eBay that are not covered by any privacy concerns.... eBay has free access to that....
