eBay.CA promo: 500 free Auctions May 29 to June 7 by invitation only

List up to 500 auction-style listings for FREE!

List auction-style, plus add BIN for free. Excludes 1-day and 3-day listing durations

When: May 29 to June 7, 2018 (midnight Eastern Time)

This is a generic .CA auction promo. The promo dates are tied to your eBay account -- so if it is not showing in the Promotions section when viewed on eBay.CA (offer will not show if viewed on .com) and no email/message -- then you do not have the invite this time.

Valid for 5, 7 and 10 day AUCTIONS

BIN added to AUCTION is free for the promo -- but (if you have a store) will get an extra listing fee if used when renewing after the promo is over.

Did not have it last time either. Just push the button and give it to everyone. What kind of outfit is ebay to select sellers and deny other sellers. Ebay is making money on other peoples products,so why do we pay insertion fees. We do the inserting,we make the pictures,we pay extra for shipping because they also take a percentage from our shipping expenses. Just get rid of insertion fees and sales will more than off set the insertion fee loss. You don,t have to be a genius to figure that out.

Thanks for the heads-up... it might have been days before I noticed this since I never receive email notifications these days.

Re: eBay.CA promo: 500 free Auctions May 29 to June 7 by invitation only

I haven't had a bulk listing promo for a few months, the timing for this one is perfect because I'm going away on Friday for a week. I can run 500 Auctions and when I get back the following Saturday maybe I'll get lucky.

Unfortunately I don't have much ready to go that is appropriate for the Auction format but I'll probably move a few things and since I can't leave my Fixed Price listings running while I'm away anything is better than the alternative of nothing listed and nothing sold.

Re: eBay.CA promo: 500 free Auctions May 29 to June 7 by invitation only

FYI tyler@ebay

I have two ebay accounts - Avionsunantiques and Westcoastart2 (latter for art only).

The former received the promo invitation, the latter did not.

Interestingly, I have been listing most of my new listings with avionsunantiques in US$ ebay.com (via ebay.ca) because of the better visibility, and the fact that ebay.com is supported, and works.

The promo is for items listed on ebay.ca only.

Seems like this is an attempt to get canadian sellers to list on ebay.ca, rather than ebay.com

This is disturbing, because the reasons for not listing on ebay.ca are still there (unfixed after months and months of complaints).

I created 292582741926 a couple of days ago (ebay.ca auction on avionsunantiques to see if any of the ebay.ca problems have been fixed - no they're are still there)

The most simple one (and must be simple to fix), is the RED LETTER WARNING that a US buyer gets when they look at my ebay.ca listing, which says SHIPPING COST CANNOT BE CALCULATED.  PLEASE ENTER A VALID POSTAL CODE.  (the correct shipping cost is actually provided, provided the potential bidder gets past that big RED LETTER warning.

ALL the non US international lookers, get their own special "get lost" message from ebay which reads

This item will ship to COUNTRY NAME HERE, but the seller has not specified shipping options. Contact the seller- opens in a new window or tab and request a shipping method to your location.   (again the actual mail cost is provided elsewhere if the potential buyer gets past that warning message).

So, Ebay would rather try to bribe sellers with a cheap promo offer to list on defective ebay.ca (where they will get less visibility, than fix the above problems)

I've found that ever since .ca required listings in $C, most Canadians have received promos

only for .ca even if they list mainly on .com.  It is frustrating.

I totally agree that those shipping cost messages should not come up and that it is ridiculous that it hasn't been fixed after many months.  I do wonder though how much of a detriment the message is  to shoppers since the majority of them look at the shipping cost in the top part of the listing and never click on the shipping tab.  I don't think that I would let that problem stop me from listing on .ca.

Out of curiosity, I put one of your .ca  items in my cart and when I 'pretended' to checkout I changed to a US address and there was no warning there so my guess is that few customers see that warning although perhaps you've noticed differently.

Re: eBay.CA promo: 500 free Auctions May 29 to June 7 by invitation only

Hi pjcdn2005 thank you for your reply.

My other job is financial analysis (MBA stuff). There is something we call the Cockroach Rule. It means that if you find one cockroach, you don't need to look further, because there will be lots more.

I think this "shipping warning" is a cockroach. On its own, we can talk our way around it as probably not being important. However, my sales and visibility have declined dramatically since it first appeared.

I don't know what else is linked to this "shipping warning", but I suspect it's the tip of the iceberg, with a lot of hidden cockroaches lurking out of sight.

As for promotions for sellers - they are a cockroach in their own right. When a selling platform is working, sellers don't need a promotion to use it!

I love treasure hunting, and ebay has been a means of facilitating that love, by allowing me to sell items I no longer want, or sell items to pay for those I wish to keep. I've been selling on ebay for 18 years now (started in 2000), and its never been this bad.

Anyway, I've got to get back to work now.
