Shipping Time Metric
eBay will create a new "on-time shipping" metric in order to measure seller shipping performance designed to be based on what sellers control: shipping items on time. eBay will consider shipments to be late only in the following two cases:
1) Tracking shows item was delivered after the estimated delivery date, and there's no acceptance scan within your stated handling time or there's no confirmation from the buyer of on-time delivery, or
2) Buyer confirms item was delivered after the estimated delivery date, and there's no acceptance scan within your stated handing time or there's no delivery confirmation by the estimated delivery date.
This raises the question: what will eBay do with the millions of transactions shipped by sellers worldwide without an acceptance scan?

Hold your horses folks!
Before anybody gets too twisted out of shape over the links posted above, remember those are the Updates posted on eCommerceBytes that apply to eBay.com.
I would wait until later today for the official eBay.ca announcement before getting my knickers in a knot.

My knickers are knotted (in fear) because I launch of of .com only, not .ca and 75% of my sales are untrackable (lettermail, Canada Post light packet and parcel).
Surely they will take into account that Canada Post is light years behind USPS as far as tracking goes and do not offer tracking service for every little package? Yikes... that is crazy.

"wait until later today for the official eBay.ca announcement "
Do you really and honestly expect things to be better for Canadians than Americans?

Which brings up the question of whether the .ca announcement in this regard will apply to sellers located in Canada or sellers listing on .ca, since it will have to do with site-specific postal issues. Let's hope it's the former.

It looks a great deal like Ebay.ca and Canadian sellers are up the creek.
We are wide open for a gazillion defects due to the ridiculous CP costs.
The big question is, does Ebay really care as we poor Canucks are a tiny % of Ebay.
Maybe Ebay.ca is on it's way out!

I have had buyers file 1 day after estimated delivery day, does that now mean auto defect and refund if no tracking?

OK, now who is the pessimist?
Actually, I expect only that they will be different, perhaps not radically, but enough to at least take into account the difference in realities between selling from Canada and selling from the U.S.
Historically that has happened to mean somewhat less stringent policy in certain areas. I know you are aware of that aspect. So I'm somewhat optimistic that eBay's announcement may be tailored to account for the differences.
Whatever they decide to throw at us, as you say, life does go on.

???
I only asked a question. No more than that.

I dearly wish they'd do the big update in Spring and leave Fall for housekeeping. I'm still months behind in paperwork, never mind the Product Catalogue changes, and gearing up my sales and inventory for the holiday season. I don't like always being under the gun.
Yes, I completely agree. Fall is the worst time to have to adjust to new policy and re-tool listings if necessary, given that we usually only have between mid-September and mid-December to make the best sales of the year.
You must be in an even tighter spot, selling toys, with Christmas on the horizon!

Umm... it was the 'really and honestly' part that made it more than a neutral question. I think you should re-read your post again.

Time to fill up that Etsy store I have been procrastination about and to look over the River, good gawd. Hopefully if someone in charge in Ebay land i s even slightly smarter than a box of rocks, Canadians will be exempt from this since CANADA POST DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME TRACKING SERVICES as the mighty USPS. -- Similar to how we are exempt from sending US customers pre-paid labels for returns, since it is impossible. Ugh.

But did I read that wrong about the defects? It's as if almost no seller behaviour will result in a defect now. Only a case not resolved and late delivery which we were always accountable for under the defect system anyway? What am I missing?
Hi! It seems that you get a defect if the buyer says it did not arrive before a certain date AND if they check and see no scan or delivery confirmation it is a defect.
Every single buyer is presented with the question "did the item arrive before such & such a date" when they go to leave feedback and they must select Yes or No. If they pick No, and eBay does not see tracking/delivery info = defect. Is what I am understanding from it...
With customs border pitstops, the delivery timelines that eBay picks are often way, way off.

Hahaha - I was about to start switching listings over to .com this week. I think I'll wait and hope the grass is greener on the Canadian side. LOL (actually, for crying out loud).
