tax problems

Hello, was curious how charging taxes on a few items I want to sell works, I am not a business so as I understand I should not charge tax but can not seem to turn it off?? Every listing Ebay requires me to put in a sales tax amount. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I mostly just buy on ebay but would like to sell a few items. Not looking to open a store or anything. Thanks again.

You are correct. Charging taxes you do not remit is a Very Bad Thing.

Revenue Canada has no sense of humour.

Are you using the terrible Simplified Sell Your Item form?

It is useless.

At the top right of the overSimplified form is the business/advanced form which has more options and is easier to use.

No, you don't have to be a 'business'.

You can also change your ID (every 30 days if you like) to something more memorable.

I can't help reading the current mishmosh as "churchmagic", for some reason.

If you are not charging sales tax then leave the field blank.

It is optional (not required), so you do not need to enter anything.

...

On a side note: You do not need to be a "business" to collect Canadian sales tax. You do need to be registered to collect GST/HST if you sell more than $30000/year.

Your listings are showing that you charge a 1% tax in BC.  Go to the following page and under payment from buyers you will see  ‘use tax table’.  On the right there is an edit button to turn that off and that will allow you to clear any tax percentages there.

The tax question does appear on the advanced form (pick either one province or use a tax table). It is optional, not required.

Mostly I just detest the Simplified form and try to steer newbies away from it.

Every time I try and leave it blank I get an error message and can not complete my listing . I get this error message .

It looks like there's a problem with this listing.
Sales tax - The selected tax rate is lower than the minimum allowed value, or greater than the maximum allowed value.

Also on my listing page it just says customize in the top right hand corner, so not sure where to find the business or advanced form either, thanks for the help.

Did you go to the link I gave in post 4 and try clearing it there?

Hi PJCDN, yes I did go to that link and clear out the tax form it is set to no now. But in the actual listing it still requires me to put something or else it will not post the listing.
