About Acceptance Scans and The Red Mail Boxes

This has probably been discussed but I wasn't paying attention, but my car is in the hospital and that makes getting to the Post Office challenging.

I am wondering what happens to my defect rate if I ship by tracked packet and drop the box into the mail box?

What happens if there's no (or a late) acceptance scan, and/or are sellers finding that their items still get scanned on time?

I'll try asking a different way.

I've shipped with tracking and dropped items into the red boxes in the past, but I found that acceptance scans weren't always done.

I'd like to ship via tracked packet because my items are perfect for that, but I'm unsure because I have to use the Red Box and there's the acceptance scan issue.

I'm wondering if others have also found that tracked or expedited parcels don't always get scanned when using the Red Box or if my experience was just a fluke.

In any case, if no acceptance scan it should be possible to show that the item was in fact shipped when the scan gets done at the other end.

Any experience with this issue?

I'm here but I have no input.

If my car's in the hospital (it actually is today too!), and the snows not too deep, and I don't have a spare car around, me and my wagon make our way to the wee PO here.....

I'm debating whether I might hike there too, but I was just out and almost fell on my tush a few times.

The Red Box would so much more convenient.

I don't send too many with tracking (few more lately) but the ones that fit in the red box go there.   Lately most of them are not scanned at the sorting plant, it can be days before anything beyond "shipper created a label" shows up.  But since most of what I send has no tracking at all it doesn't make any difference to me as Im always at the mercy of how the buyers aswer the time question.   Still zero defects on all ids since the late thing started.  No one has asked about tracking not updating for so long.

If I put stuff in the red box today, Tuesday, after its picked up (which all the former cut off times have been replaced with "picked up daily") it gets picked up  wedensday, and best case scenario it gets scanned after midnight so its actually Thursday.  Though often that scan doesn't happen.  From here in ON sometimes the frst scan is in BC

Yes, that's pretty much the way I was thinking too.

For some items, like those I shipped today, my cost is almost the same for tracked vs non-tracked packages, so I go with tracked when shipping from a depot.

After some thought I decided that when using the Red Box tracking can work against you so I used Small Packet instead.

On cold slippery days it's not worth the hike just to make sure packages get scanned on time.

The majority of my packages aren't tracked and I don't always check online tracking for the ones that do have it but whenever I do check, every package, regardless if it was put in a mailbox or mailed at the outlet, has been scanned that same evening at the sorting centre in Calgary.

Yiu could check your previous tracked packages to see if they are usually scanned at their first stop on the same evening that you mail the,  If they are, then it shouldn't matter if you use an outside box.  Also,, keep  in mind that even if your first scan is not within your handling time your package will not be considered late if it is scanned as delivered before the last estimated delivery date.

Thank You pj.  Had I known that I would have used tracked packet because the cost of shipping was almost the same for small packet.  I thought it was only about the acceptance scan.

Good to know.
