And it comes back to haunt Harper

With the possibility of a majority Parti Québécois government for the first time in almost a decade, federal parties are closely watching the Quebec election. CBC News has learned that earlier this week, when the prime minister and the leader of the Official Opposition met to discuss Ukraine, the prime minister also asked Tom Mulcair for his take on the election.

In all his time as prime minister, Harper has never faced a majority PQ government or the very real threat of a referendum.

Well Stevie, this is the result of you saying "That this House recognize that the Quebecois form a nation within a united Canada."

Never open a Pandora's box, you may not like what's in there waiting to get out.

And it comes back to haunt Harper

not sure why this would haunt Harper??  if Quebec decided to separate then both official opposition parties lose their leaders as both Trudeau and Mulcair have seats in Quebec which would then not be part of the Federal government.!  WIN WIN!!!!

A significant part of Harper's winning margins in many ridings is composed of "anti-Quebec" (and in some cases "anti-eastern" or other similar variation) votes. And if the truth were known, that may be the very phenomenon that keeps the Cons so far ahead of the pack in AB and a few other places. After all, when the political landscape is adjusted to remove the so dreaded and scary "French" factor, as in Calgary municipal elections, we see that a totally progressive liberal like Naheed Nenshi actually mops the floor with all conservative pretenders.

So, if there were no more Quebec, we might well see a reconciliation of voting patterns - shuffling things around with a result not unlike the status quo... with a Liberal on the way into power...

Cartoons like the one valve posted and the attitudes it exposes are what has kept the PQ going the last 10 years or so, or they might have literally died off like the Bloc. The ironic (if we don't take a more cynical label, which would be more like "criminal" or "traitorous") thing is how much of this anti-Quebec bs is fomented by none other than... newspapers and media owned by the illustrious PQ candidate Pierre Karl Peladeau!

And the same "attitudes" are what also provoke others in the world when people make hateful comments and jokes about people of other races, religions, lifestyles. They are the purveyor's of hate and are the causes of the resulting actions that follow. There is a black hole of darkness in some people.

"No shortage of entertainment!"

Most of us look at it that way Art but some always dwell on the dark side, live on the dark side and it shows. Why even Marois would laugh at her coin.

Considering that a "real loonie" tried to assassinate her not that long ago... I wouldn't be so sure

Personally I think there is a very fine line when it comes to so-called joking about people and it is often questionable when someone says "oh don't worry they would probably laugh at it themselves". Even I have found myself caught on that fine line years ago when I would joke about a fellow I knew and he laughed and took it well, but then one day someone took me aside and said "I don't think he really likes it". It was one of those moments in life when as I stood in a farm field (where I had been told) that I had a revelation and a good hard look at my own self. I now save my jokes, if they are used if they are used at all, for people I really don't like and I don't care one iota how they feel because if they can dish it out at others, they can take it.

"Joking" has also become something that is used by some people as a form of subtle attack, as well as get others to join in so they don't feel so alone. The best example recently would be those cartoons about Mohammad that ran in Europe and then Levant published them in Canada. They weren't funny, never meant to be funny, they were juvenile and just plain ignorant.

I have decided that praising people who deserve it, if far better than making jokes about them and if you don't like someone don't make jokes either. Instead be honest.

ENGLISH LESSON

An airplane was about to crash; there were 5 passengers on
board, but only 4 parachutes.

The first passenger said: "I am Stephen Harper, the prime
minister of Canada. The country needs me to continue the
work I’ve been doing. I can't afford to die." So he
took the first parachute and left the plane.

The second passenger said: "I am Justin Trudeau and
I’m the new leader of the Liberal party, and the
next prime minister of Canada. The country needs me to
undo the damage that Harper has done to our Canadian
values. So he grabbed the parachute next to him and
jumped.

The third passenger, a woman, said: "I am Pauline Marois, da
premier hof Quebec. Da people's of hour 'Belle
Province' don'ts wants me to die beescause dey wants de
French language to be law and have deir hown country." So
she took the third parachute and jumped out of the plane.

The last two remaining passengers were a 90 year old
decorated World War II veteran and a 10-year-old schoolgirl.
The vet said "I have lived a full life, and served my
country the best I could. I will sacrifice my life and let
you have the last parachute."

To which the little girl replied: "That’s OK sir, there
are still two parachutes left. It was clearly written on it
in English but that lady from Quebec took my schoolbag."

What's the big deal? If anything it will endear him to the average person as opposed to that stuffed shirt who needs a hired 'dresser' to make him look like a cartoon character from the Simpsons before he walks out the door in the morning.

If there was any haunt it's now a hoot. While Trudeu and Mulcair fight over the 58 QC seats the NDP now hold Stevie can fully concentrate on winning the rest of Canada in 2015.

This great result probably bad news for Harpo.

All the anti-QC angst plays into the Cons' hands. QC with a pro-Canada government means one less issue for Harper to fool people with.
