Anyone shipping from USA ?

I would like to start sending my US and international parcels from USA.

Found this article:

http://www.canadabusiness.ca/servlet/ContentServer?cid=1085667968866〈=en&pagename=CBSC_ON/display&c=GuideInfoGuide

The documentation required for informal entry should contain "a Commercial Invoice stating "Informal Entry as per Section 321"

How does CanadaPost do it? Do they create a commercial invoice for each parcel or do they use the formal entry method and clear the whole truckload of parcels at the same time?

Do I need commercial invoice for each parcel or can I somehow combine them all onto single one?

If it's a combined invoice, who would be a receiver of this invoice ?

Thanks

Surplus she's talking about bringing it into Canada not the US. Going into the US yes, different people want different things. I have not found that to be the case for bringing commercial goods into Canada in 9 years.

I still believe they accomodated you or they didn't know better or something was miscommunicated or misunderstood somewhere because that is not the proper way to import goods. All commercial goods regardless of value has to go through the commercial lanes. You got lucky that they didn't make you but they are supposed to.

I've brought stuff over at values of anywhere from $250 - $4000 and everywhere in between since around that time too. They have to go through the commercial lanes. Even when I've crossed in the personal lanes at Lewiston with a couple hundred dollars of commercial goods, I was told I had to go into the personal declaration building, get the paperwork and go to the commercial side to make the entry.

Commercial goods can't be entered through the personal side and there was no minimum to do so.

It doesn't work. They've already told her how to do it properly & she doesn't like it. I'm only trying to explain to her that her previous experience was lucky & not the correct way to make a commercial entry.

Somebody obviously got wind of the incorrect process going on over there & have corrected it. Whether it was the location or the people, who knows but it was wrong. Unfortunately she's taking their incorrect interpretation of the rules as gospel because she got away with it for so long. There is no such thing as $1600 or less. Goods brought into Canada for resale have to make a commercial entry. There is no minimum.

Well, then let the Canadian Border guards explain it to her.

I'm sure they can be persuasive.]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: bringing commercial goods into Canada

I am looking for a way to bring things to Canada now.

Do I need the broker to enter Canada with commercial goods?

What customs form should I use?

How long does it take? Using commercial entry to US is somewhat faster than personal lanes - the processing may take longer but shorter lines.

Is there a fee to process the items? Americans sometimes charge me $10.70 USD to process but only rarely.

Thank you

When you cross the border, go into the customs building on the Canadian side of the border and ask them - they should be able to give you the information. -------------------------------------------------------------------

If you're just bringing the empty boxes from USPS across, you can go through the regular lanes - just tell them what it it and tell them they're no commercial value.

I brought an entire van load through that way and they just waved me through. -------------------------------------------------------------------

How to ship 10oz with $78 insurance to France by USPS?

The clerk was only able to offer some $26 service.

Seems CanadaPost Small Packet for $15.80 is better game for this one.

No doubt, there are cases where it's better to use Canada Post.

Btw, that piece wouldn't be small enough to fit in a Small Flat Rate box, would it? $12.95 if it is ( and you could buy the insurance elsewhere) -------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, it would fit, but USPS does not offer insurance on it.

Auctiva does.

I'm sure there must be others that do as well. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, I looked at 3rd party insurance. Auctiva, Shipsurance.

Problem with these is they do not insure half of the world. Brazil, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Romania, etc.

Generally problem with shipping insurance is they give you good run to pay off. Google USPS INSURANCE IS FICKLE.

Most of my shipments are below $100,so I am considering (once again) to allocate $10/week (~ $500/year) to a self-managed fund out of which the claims would get paid. No forms to fill, no time to waste, no dozen phone calls to recover $40. If we stop buying the insurance, I will actually save those $10 weekly.

Really, what is the chance of buyer's scam spree on eBay these days? Three sellers file a complaint against buyer with Trust and Safety and dude is out of the game.

Back to the topic here: I just did an experiment and shipped a parcel to myself last week. Had a Canadian customer who asked for "cheaper and slower" shipping method. This customer adviced he never paid brokerage/duties on shipments below $50 by post office.

The distance was ~ 20km, shipped Friday before cut-off, delivered today - took 6 calendar days (a long weekend). Sent First Class Mail $2.53, if sent from Canada would have to be Expedited Parcel due to thickness, i.e. anywhere between $6 ~ $14 depending on the location.

Now, now - remember Murphy's Law.

In this case, because it could not hurt you, Murphy's Law says the parcel will be the only one shipped by taxi on a given day.

When it's absolutely essential that it get there quickly, Murphy's law says a month, minimum.:-D

I've considered that, too.

Haven't tried it yet - don't think I'm going to, for the above reason. -------------------------------------------------------------------
