Bryan.ca, Country Product Manager

Post your questions and comments, we will start answering at the top of the hour.

Cheers!

Re: April 3rd Weekly Board Hour

Hi and hope you had a nice long weekend!

A comment I read lately got me thinking. A two part question.

Non-store users get 50 free auctions per month. Starting April 16th I believe that changes to 150 free auctions or fixed price. Does this mean that if a person uses up the 50 free for April by April 16th then they would still get another 150 to use during the next 30 days? Also, is the 150 by calendar month or the 16th to the 15th of the next month?

Re: April 3rd Weekly Board Hour

Good afternoon "Raphael".

Have you guys ever considered using your real first name instead of those made-up identification.

Most of us know by now the identity of "Rodney".

However, few are aware that "Kalvin" today is not the same indidual as "Kalvin" a few months ago.  Different staffers assume newer identities.  It does get confusing.

Why not make it easy for everyone? 🙂

Re: April 3rd Weekly Board Hour

I have a Premium store, but with the Changes in May, it looks like a Basic store will be better.

A couple of questions:

When is the best time to change subscription level?  Will  billing be pro-rated?

Will I have to make any other changes? ----- I found that I will have to un-subscribe from Selling Manager Pro, since it will not be free for a Basic store.

Anything else?

(BTW, thanks for starting up this weekly Q&A hour again,  much missed)

Hello pierrelebel,

I don't know what you are talking about, Raphael is my real name and it's my real photo too! 🙂

Joking aside, there used to be a policy in place for Pinks to use aliases, which isn't the case anymore. Those of us who had Pink accounts before they removed that rule just kept our Boards identity for sake of continuity.

Re: April 3rd Weekly Board Hour

Kalvin, you said you would be looking into this for me. Any results yet?

I use TL and have been using it for about 7 yrs. Recently the post office made some changes to postal codes by adding new ones. I can change my postal code to my new one in TL but it won't let me submit my listing to eBay using the new postal code. I get the message that I should enter a valid zip code. I have twice sent emails through TL but other than a message saying they have rec'd my emai I never get an answer to the problem. I'm wondering if the problem is because ebay has not updated their postal codes.

The problem is that ebay and paypal have my correct postal code address but I have no way of changing the one in TL. Could you look into this please?

BTW, Canada Post changed my postal code back last July, I have been trying to get this problem fixed since then. Its not just on TL, ebay often asks me for my postal code when I am searching for items and won't accept my new postal code just the really old one.

Hi msmaggie060,

The new fees start on May 1, 2013, it's less confusing to introduce the new structure in the beginning of the month rather than the middle. Also, we define calendar months beginning at 12:00:00am Pacific Time on the first day of each month and ends at 11:59:59pm on the last day of the month. This converts to 9:00pm Eastern to 8:59:59pm Eastern.

Thanks,

Re: April 3rd Weekly Board Hour

Hi Raphael - hope they gave you guys a long weekend too!

I have a question regarding functionality on the eBay.ca site.  I recently had to revise a buyer's invoice (item purchased on eBay.ca), and I was unable to find a "Revise Invoice" option on the drop-down menu on my "Sold" page for that item.

I had use a workaround I'd figured out previously  -- I logged onto eBay.com, went to the "Sold" page, clicked on my sold item, and chose "Revise Invoice" (or it may have said "Send Invoice", I can't recall).  That took me through to eBay.ca, another link, and to my original invoice, which I was able to revise and send.  Another seller has mentioned that I could also have clicked on the item, chosen "Order Details" and revised the invoice that way -- another workaround.

Do you know why it is that once a seller sends an invoice on eBay.ca, that functionality disappears from the drop-down list on the "Sold" page?  Was this an oversight, or??  I don't mind using one of the "workarounds" now that I've discovered them, and I know this is a fairly infrequent occurrence (revising invoices), but it would be nice to have the option right there where it really belongs.   Thanks!

Hello ottokitty,

The most advantageous store subscription depends greatly on how a seller's velocity and how their business is run, so it may not be the same for everyone. The Fee Illustrator is a great tool to figure out what will work best for you.

Billing is usually pro-rated when changing subscription levels, however there may be different rules if you downgrade your subscription. You should contact CS for more details on this. Other than that, you shouldn't have to worry about any other changes.

Hello rose-dee,

Long weekend was excellent, thanks!

Can you give me the item number in question so I can look at this more closely?

Thanks!

pierrelebel,

I was hoping not to let too many people know that I am, in fact, Batman.

Just kidding. As raphael explained, this is a hangover from many years ago. 🙂

For those who don't know, my real name is Russ Patterson. But I'll keep using Rodney on the boards for old times' sake.

Re: April 3rd Weekly Board Hour

Sorry, one more question:  I have a Basic store -- if I wish to move to the yearly subscription, when can/should I do this, May 1st or prior?

I'd like to take advantage of the free listings as soon as possible, but was wondering how billing will work if the switch is made prior to May 1st?

Thanks!

Really? This is what I found under the "See more details" on the Spring announcement:

New standard fees (fees without an eBay Stores subscription):Continue to pay no insertion fees on up to 50 listings* a month. Starting April 16, these free listings can be either fixed price or Auction-style.

Do you know if the above info is incorrect because I have seen some questions/comments on some of the boards about this and sellers are reading that as starting April 16th. Which brings us back to the first part of my original question if it is correct.

Thanks.

Re: April 3rd Weekly Board Hour

Another question, if I may...

Question about multiple purchases ie: the items being put in the cart, being still available for sale, until payment, or till Invoice requested.

----> to avoid multiple payments for multiple purchases:

From the Special discussion board (spring seller update) on .com

...you should consider providing your buyers with simple instructions for receiving shipping discounts by way of the Shopping Cart. If you use eBay’s combined shipping discounts feature to offer your buyers shipping discounts the discount will automatically be applied to their order total in cart.

If you don't use this tool but still offer combined shipping discounts, your buyers must add the items they want to purchase to their Shopping Cart and request a new invoice reflecting the revised shipping cost by clicking the Request Total button.

Even though this new purchase flow with the Cart will only be on .com, since many of us list on .com, could I please ask –

Where would be the best place to put this information for the buyer:

at the top of the description?

at the end of the description?

Or in the Shipping Section (Seller's payment instructions) – although it might be too late to put it there?

Also, could you provide specific wording? Something  brief, succinct, clear.

If I find this whole thing confusing, I’m sure my buyers will as well. (or maybe it’s just me)

The number is: 170999894064 (UK buyer).  Although I did manage to send a revised invoice, the drop-down list on the right ("Sold" page) doesn't offer "Revise Invoice" or "Send Invoice" as an option (not that I'm planning a 2nd revision, but this is how it looked the first time I tried to revise).

I don't think it's the particular item.  This has happened 2 or 3 times before, and it looks as if once you've sent the initial invoice on eBay.ca, that's it as far as the drop-down options go.

Thanks!

Never mind answering that, I re-read it again and realize that I read it wrong. Took me about 4 tries before it sunk in!

So its 50 per month still for non-stores but they can be fp or auction starting Apr. 16th.

GOT IT!

Thanks for the item number. I need that to make sure we aren't seeing a bug here. I'll trouble shoot a bit and get back to you via email.
