Atracting wrong type of customers

I posted few $0.01 auctions and $1.00 shipping recently to try to be on the top when people search by price. Now got a (Canadian) fellow who got two auctions for starting bid and asked me to combine shipping to $1 :^O

Amused and against our policies I combined and quickly abandoned idea of being on top of search by price - a real estate I will let other sellers to have. Perhaps I should even give this guy his two cents back right away to avoid a low DSR or possibly a neg for overpriced shipping 😮

And if you refund his two cents , he can go for a NonPerforming Seller Dispute and still leave you feedback.

If you ask for a Mutual Cancellation, he can leave feedback.

Give him a penny off the shipping, and use either stamps or a Canada Post shipping label, so that he can actually see how much postage you paid.

Maybe even two pennies! Be generous!

And in case you need help with describing the buyer :

Walmart greeter?...;-)

Off topic, but Stratford just won a landmark victory over Walmart. They have been trying to build here for the past few years but the location they want is in the east end which is already well developed and the land they had in mind is zoned industrial. The city said no but they appealed it to the OMB who decided in favour of Stratford's city development plan. It apparently will have an impact on Walmart's attempts to get other cities to change zoning as well.

Stratford council has no objection to them locating here but would like them to build in the west end of the city.

Score one for Stratford!

Nasty 😄

Not that desperate. Btw. I left $95k/y 9-5 job voluntarily to do this and they called me back several times. I am not saying this pays more, not even close, but there are other perks.

Just kidding, dipmicro. That is kind of a standing joke around my area.

The perks of selling on eBay used to be better. Now it's just plain stressful. Tonight I had a customer complain that one of my photos was "too good". She said that "you sellers" use photos taken under "ideal conditions" that make them look good to "dupe buyers" because they don't look anything like what you get.

That is hilarious because my "ideal conditions" consist of taking pictures in my bathroom (for best lighting) in a makeshift cardboard "light box" that my husband put together for me. And I have only a cheap digital camera. What a hoot!

I do not mean necessarily eBay, the perks of self-employment.

One of the perks is that it pays the bills somewhat. Not a big achievement.

Second perk is own hours. When you look at number of hours, I get 1/3 of money 2x hours, again not a big achievement.

Third perk is self-sustenance, this is a big one for me. I don't need no stinking corporation. Office politics, oh my ... There was this under-performing female coworker, lots of legs, little brain. Once she needed help and I was busy. Few days later I am called to HR for harrasment. Turns out I was telling someone a blonde joke, she was around and felt offended. Another female coworker, CEO secretary bullying everyone, really unpleasant and self-important woman. She also tried to get me to HR for some reason, when I mentioned my top 10 harassment complaints about her, she withdrew the complaint. Such a f***ing nonsense! Both of these indispensable females got laid off the first lay-off round. Turns out they were not as important for the company as me after all.

Anyway, no boss and no so called office culture is a big one for me.

I like being my own boss. I have ever since we started doing craft shows 20 years ago. My father had his own business and I liked the fact that we could leave early on a Friday to get a spot at a campground and beat the rush. When you grow up with that lifestyle you get used to it and want it forever.

eBay is beginning to take that away from us, unfortunately, as they continue to micromanage our businesses. I am beginning to feel more like an eBay employee all the time...and not a well-treated one. When we exhibit at shows I have much more freedom than I do here. Most of the show organizers bend over backwards to please the exhibitors. If they don't, the exhibitors don't come back. Many of the shows that we did for several years have closed.

My husband addressed some women as ladies one time and that, apparently, was a big mistake because they were grossly offended. When I was growing up, lady was a term of respect, not a sexist remark. Now if he had called them bit@@ it would have suited them better.
