Pick up the phone and call the buyer

It sounds like you shipped via Expedited?

What you are describing is very common.

They hold the items for a long time and it's far too early for you to be concerned.

For now I'd just wait.

How long will the P.O wait

At least 14 days.

It could be that  the  buyer  does  not want the item  and wants it to be returned to the sender, than he will  dispute the purchase

"It could be"

It could or it could not.

It would be best to simply call the buyer instead of speculating on the possible reasons why the item has not yet been picked up.

Possibly the buyer is not even aware a parcel is waiting for pick up at the post office.

Re: Attempted delivery. Notice card left indicating where item can be picked up

I often get mail, and sometimes including pick-up cards, meant for others in my rural area.    The only reason they end up with them in their box instead of in the garbage is because I handdeliver them to the rightful owners.

i used to just put them back in the mailbox, but then the customer doesn't know their mail has yet again been mis-delivered, in case they wish to take it up with the post office.

Re: Attempted delivery. Notice card left indicating where item can be picked up

The notices go out automatically. My PO holds parcels for me until I pick them up, regardless of how long it is. I can be away for 6 weeks at a time.

Perhaps the customer is on vacation and will collect their mail when they get back.

Re: Attempted delivery. Notice card left indicating where item can be picked up

The Postal Outlet will hold the item for at least 14 days (2 weeks). Often, the Outlet will hold the item for longer. The Outlet that I work at will normally hold the item for 3 weeks, longer if the customer is a regular.

Re: Attempted delivery. Notice card left indicating where item can be picked up

Forgot to mention, it would not be a bad idea to shoot the customer a message saying their parcel is waiting at the "Blah Blah Postal Outlet". If your parcel is returned, no matter if it is unclaimed or refused, you will most likely have to pay return parcel charges. Those are no fun.

I had some parcels returned to me and I never have to pay for the return parcels.
