I do that too. But, we have numbers that show that we are far from being the majority.
I do too! I find store categories the easiest way to navigate the listings of a seller once I'm on a listing. So I guess we are all dinosaurs.
This does, as 'poco' suggests, beg the question of why have store categories at all, if the majority aren't even seeing them? I should add that, when I did have Omniture available, it was tracking visits to my store home page, and although these were lower than visits to listings, they weren't a lot lower. I guess most of my buyers are dinosaurs too.
Everything that comes with a Store can be beneficial to a seller. Some will benefit more than others, just like with any other site feature.
Even if we're all dinosaurs, keep in mind that the overwhelming minority, for sake of example lat's say 1%, is still a very large group on ~157 million buyers on eBay. If you put all those dinosaurs on one room it would have to be pretty large! 😉

Not sure I understand your question. If you're talking about not paying for international (UK) exposure, then all it means is that your items won't show in the default search results set on eBay.co.uk.
I am talking about the added FVF % that Ebay wants to charge sellers for added exposure if their item sells!
Sorry to intervene, but I wonder if 'dutchman' is referring to proposed "Featured Ad" programme that was mentioned a couple of a weeks ago. I may not be using the proper name, but it's a programme to allow sellers to choose to post special advertisements which are then paid for once the item sells.

Raphael, is there any informational page currently available on eBay that sets out the features and functionality of the new store format? If there is, I haven't been able to find it. Could you please post the link here? TYVM!
Sure thing:

Also you can preview what your own store would look like in the new format:

And, why is China exempt from any of this?
If you are a buyer and need to return an item that wasn't as described, and you are unable to reach satisfactory terms withe the seller, you should simply escalate to eBay CS. If the case if sound in your favour, eBay give the seller time to accommodate for the return shipping (usually they recommend for the seller to issue a partial refund to cover for return shipping, so the buyer doesn't have to pay out of pocket) and once the item is returned to the seller, a full refund for original item price + shipping is issued. If the seller fails to comply with eBay's instructions, eBay will step in and issue a full refund, and deal with the seller directly.
Essentially, if the seller fails to make it right when you have an item not as described, just let the case get to a point where you can escalate and then ask eBay to step in. They will guide you through the rest.
Is this written in policy and if so, where?
My summary sentence above is exactly what the policy says, paraphrased ever so slightly.

One of my concerns is even if in policy Ebay doesn't follow it:

This is a bit of a weird answer, Raphael. I'd like to be able to compare features of old vs. new stores to be able to make a decision.
From what I can see (as an example) the new store format does not include the ability to put up promotional boxes or custom boxes on the storefront to communicate with buyers. Does it include Markdown Manager? Does it provide the ability to customize the banner? Is the owner able to turn off that annoying (at least to me) "fade in" feature as you scroll through the listings?
These (and more) are the kinds of things that would be important to know before making the decision to leap. Or are you saying it's moot because we're all going to be obligated to migrate to the new store format sooner or later?

Ah, Promoted Listings. This is currently only available as a pilot on eBay.com. You can read about it here:
http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/stores/promoted-listings/benefits.html
To answer dutchman48's question, no harm will come to those who don't opt into this.

OK, thanks for the links above re the new store format. That's a beginning at least.
Still wondering if/when we will all be obliged to go to the new format. Do you know?

I am unaware of an added FVF %. Can you please show me where you saw this?
With promoted listings, you can create advertisements for your listings to be shown in prominent places on eBay. It's easy to create an ad, and you only pay a fee when items sell.
The promoted listings service is currently available by invitation only. If you already use this feature and have questions, contact us.
Do a search under help for promoted listings and there is a lot of information

"If a buyer receives an item that doesn't match the listing description, the buyer needs to request a return from My eBay. The seller should address the buyer's concern and offer a solution, such as accepting a return, offering a replacement or refund.
If the buyer doesn't receive a response or solution, or returns the item but doesn't receive a refund or replacement from the seller, the buyer can ask us to step in and help.
If asked to step in and help, we review the item description, photos of the item, if provided by the buyer or seller, and any other information about the item that the buyer and seller provide. If we can't determine that the item matches the listing description, if the seller has already offered a return, or the seller's stated return window and policy applies, we may ask the buyer to return the item to the seller."
This is pretty much what I said.
And yes, we do care if a buyer doesn't return an item in the same condition as it was received. We do side with sellers when buyers abuse the policy.

Basic question, why does Ebay allow a buyer to pay for a cancelled sale and again, open sellers up to buyer abuse?
It shouldn't be possible to pay for a transaction that was already cancelled. May I have he item number? The number you gave is a CS case ID number which I am unable to look up.

It is very likely that everyone will eventually be moved to the new format, as managing two platforms is too onerous. When will that happen though, I don't think that's yet defined.

One last question (I promise) --
Yesterday when I logged into eBay, I was met with a screen that asked me to set 3 security questions. There's nothing wrong with that and I understand the purpose (many other sites do it). My question is why this wasn't thought of before? Is eBay running a test of some kind?
Many banking sites have 2-level security log-ins: first a password, then answer a pre-set question. Why hasn't eBay adopted this method long ago as a security measure on the site?

Folks, I have to step away for a bit but will leave the thread open for another couple of hours. Will come back around 3 to reply to any remaining posts before closing the discussion. See you in a bit!

Security questions have existed on eBay since before I joined in 2006. We only ask members to answer these if they lost their password, not at every log in like banking sites do.
What you're seeing is part of our effort to make eBay more secure. A lot of members had never populated their secret questions or their secret answers had been scrambled at some point (this is sometimes done when an account gets taken over, in order to secure its data), so we're asking them to do so at login.
