Perhaps this has been discussed before but I couldn't find it.  I've just lost my Top Rated Seller Rating and in trying to understand why I found this

"Only your transactions with US buyers count toward your seller performance rating on eBay.com."

So all the good feedback I've received from Canadian and overseas customers doesn't count?  Can you please comment?
Thanks,

Leslie

Last week in the weekly session I asked the question.....

The new .ca user agreement states:

Cross-Border Trade. We updated this section to underscore that for eligible listings for which you have not previously specified an international shipping option, buyers from select countries may be shown an international shipping option

Does this mean that there are definite plans to implement a gsp like program in Canada? If not, what does it mean?

Ryanne replied by quoting a portion from the User Agreement which really did not answer the question for me so I'll try again. Does the above section mean that there are plans to have a gsp like program in Canada? Or...could it mean that if a seller specifies that they sell internationally but do not specify a shipping service or shipping cost that ebay will fill in the information? Or??

Hi pjcdn2005,

No there are no plans to get a GSP type program and no, eBay will not be planning to specify a shipping service or cost.

Thanks,

Ryanne

While on the subject of TRS status, I received an email from eBay.com congratulating me for becoming a TRS on the US site.

I do NOT meet the criteria (I do not upload tracking, ever)

http://community.ebay.ca/t5/Seller-Central/TRS-Status-on-eBay-com-Here-we-go-again/m-p/261527#U26152...

Why did eBay.com send me that incorrect information?

Hello cooleastmarket,

Unfortunately there is no simple answer to your question. 🙂 Please bear with me.

As a Canadian seller, you are evaluated under 4 different seller performance programs (US, UK, Germany and Global). The two that usually matter the most however, are US and Global.

Your US performance is evaluated by looking at all the sales you make to US buyers and governs your seller level on eBay.com

Your Global performance is evaluated by looking at all the sales you make to any buyer, regardless of where they are located, and governs your seller level on eBay.ca.

To answer your question specifically, it is true that all the good feedback you got from Canadian and overseas buyers will never count towards your performance rating on eBay.com. All this feedback does count towards your Global performance, however.

Raphael, in post 74 of the Fall Sellers Update thread when replying to a question by Pierre you wrote....

"What has yet to be worked out are the mechanisms of the eBay.ca eMBG, so only what impacts buyers who shop on eBay.ca."

I asked about that quote in that same thread but since you may not have seen it yet, I'll copy and paste my comment/questions

Perhaps I'm missing it but I don't see any information about how international returns will be handled on .com.

For example, if a Canadian buyer shops on .com and then wants to return an item, how is it decided which service and how much the seller will have to spend for that return shipping? For a Canadian buyer to buy postage at the post office to send an item back to the U.S. with delivery confirmation, the smallest item will cost $16. Is the .com seller expected to pay $16 even if the original shipping was only $8?

After Sept 15th, if a buyer purchases an item from me on .com and then wants to return it,  how much return postage do I have to pay?  I may have sent the item via small packet post for $8 but if the return cost with del confirmation is $15, do I have to pay double the original postage to have the item returned?

It's also possible that a Canadian buyer could buy from me on .com. I could have sent that item lettermail for $1.80 but would I have to pay $12+ for the item to be returned with delivery confirmation?

As shown, there are scenarios that will effect Canadian and U.S. users on Sept 15th but it doesn't seem as if the details are worked out for that yet? Is that true? If so, when will they be announced?

Hi Pierre,

eBay.com did not send you any incorrect information. Canadian sellers are actually not required to meet the tracking requirement in order to reach TRS status. This is something we negotiated when this requirement was introduced on eBay.com and has always been in place since.

The tracking requirement is however necessary for a Canadian seller's listings to qualify for Top Rated Plus, which gives qualifying listings the Top Rated seal on eBay.com.

For good measure, I've just checked your account and confirm that you made Top Rated status on eBay.com as well as in the Global program. Congrats, enjoy the seller discounts!

Global TRS

TRS seems to be grouped into separate TRS based on these grouping of ebay sites

1) eBay.com USA

2) eBay.co.uk UK and eBay.ie Ireland

3) eBay.de Germany, eBay.at Austria, eBay.ch Switzerland

4) Global TRS - eBay.ca Canada, eBay.fr France, eBay.it Italy, eBay.nl Netherlands, eBay.be Belgium, eBay.es Spain, eBay.pl Poland, and some other eBay country sites.

If I have achieved TRS on eBay.ca Canada, it is global TRS and my listings will show the TRS badge on eBay.ca and all of the other Global sites (not the first 3 groups because they are not part of the Global TRS grouping) when viewed by buyers. So if I view one of my listings on eBay.it Italy, I will see the TRS on the listing at the top right.

eBay.com.au Australia used to show the global TRS when viewing my listings. Global TRS does not appear when viewing my listings on eBay.com.au. I am fairly certain the Global TRS used to appear on eBay Australia as recently as 3 months ago when I was testing what my listings looked like on other eBay sites. I made notes by eBay site and one was of the features I noted was the TRS logo appearing. Why does Australia not show Global TRS on their site now?

I have seen your other post and am still sourcing the answers I need to adequately respond. I will post in the Seller Update thread as soon as I can.

Let me try again.

The message from eBay.com specified:

-20% discount on final value fees
-Increased search standing when you follow our listing best practices and
consistently deliver great service
-A prominent Top Rated Plus seal

I already receive the 20% discount as TRS (Global) and received TRS seal when listings are viewed on eBay.ca (and a few other international sites).  The TRS seal does not show in my listings on eBay.com since I do not qualify.

Yet, the message from eBay.com states I have s "prominent Top Rated Plus seal".

"This is something we negotiated when this requirement was introduced on eBay.com and has always been in place since."

I suggest you refer this question to Rodney.  That negotiated plum (no tracking needed) for Canadian sellers was cancelled within a month.

Apparently there is a powerseller bulletin or pamphlet that is mailed out on a regular basis to U.S. powersellers. It seems to me that when I first qualified as one I also received something similar but it has been years since I've seen one. I do have my preferences checked to allow ebay to send me things by regular mail so perhaps only U.S. sellers qualify for this now?

Hi pocomocomputing,

Thanks for reporting this, we will investigate.

I was reading the requirements for TRS on eBay Australia here

http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/top-rated.html

It seems they have tightened up their TRS requirements. They go not seem to be part of Global TRS with all global sales being counted, only Australia sales.

So it appears that Australia is in a group of their own. No official group like the first three groups and not part of global TRS.

No need for Rodney here, I assure you I'm quite the expert with both the CA vs US Top Rated programs.

The message you got from eBay.com is generic and is designed and intended for US sellers reaching TRS status. The more lenient thresholds we negotiated for Canadian sellers are not outlined in that email because it doesn't make sense to put that there for 1% of the intended audience. I would rather have it done properly and have the US folks make a special email for Canadian sellers entering the US TRS program, but this is not possible at this time.

Let me spell out what is different for Canadians sellers reaching TRS status on eBay.com. In order to do that, I need to first spell out one major difference in the US program, which is that on eBay.com there are 2 levels of Top Rated status: account level and listing level (Top Rated Plus).

  • US sellers need to meet the sales volume and defect rate requirements in order to make TRS at account level (account level TRS gives nothing to US sellers anymore, it's just required to qualify for listing-level benefits).
  • US sellers need to meet all the other requirements (90% tracking, 14 days returns and 1 day handling) in order to make Top Rated Plus at listing level, which gives them the Top Rated Plus seal and FVF discount on the qualifying listings only.

Now that I've clarified that, here are the differences for Canadian sellers on eBay.com:

  • CA sellers don't need to meet any of the listing level requirements in order to make TRS status and get their 20% FVF discount. This makes them exempt from needing to meet 90% tracking requirement since tracking is so much more expensive in Canada.
  • CA sellers are awarded their 20% FVF discount an all their listings created on eBay.ca and on eBay.com whether they make TRS on either site.
  • CA sellers however need to meet all the US listing level requirements on all transactions made with US buyers in order to get their Top Rated Plus seal when looking at their items on eBay.com.

Forums issue

If a topic has unread replies, I click on the topic and am brought down to the latest unread reply.

If I use the links at the bottom or top of a reply called "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic", if the topic has unread replies, it brings me to the first post in the topic, not the first unread reply. It should be the first unread reply if it exists.

Another question on the next topic link. What is the criteria for determining what is next? I would like it to bring me to the next unread topic but it seems to bring me to read or unread topics. So the next topic feature appears useless to chain through unread topics.

Hi pjcdn2005,

I believe that the text that you are referring to is from the Announcement Board posting and clearly should have been removed because it's referencing GSP for .com sellers. The actual User agreement doesn't mention anything like that except "We may offer certain programs, tools, and site experiences of particular interest to international sellers and buyers, such as estimated local currency conversion and international shipping calculation tools." This doesn't mean that if such a tool was used that that shipping cost would be forced upon sellers.

Thanks,

Ryanne

Back to the 2014 Fall Update for a moment, your post #74 last week cleared most of my confusion on the eBay Money Back Guarantee (MBG) program.

You confirmed that if the item is purchased on eBay.com, the seller is responsible to pay return shipping should eBay conclude that the items is Significantly Not As Described (SNAD) and should be returned to the seller for full refund.

OK - that finally made sense to me...... until I took a look at what buyers are told by eBay:

http://pages.ebay.com/ebay-money-back-guarantee/

What does eBay Money Back Guarantee cover?

......

Please note that, if return shipping is not payable by the seller in accordance with their return policy, the costs of returning the item are your responsibility.

Now, I am confused again.  Is this a loophole where sellers have to show they do not pay the cost of postage for returns and this will override the eBay policy of having sellers pay return postage.  Or am I missing something (again).
