BEWARE of seller - I was RIPPED OFF by

All need to beware of this seller and how he conducts business. He listed a 2010 rytera compound bow. In his listing he stated he only ships to the us. Now as I am Canadian i do have a sip to address in the us. This was listed in my info. Now i was the successful bidder on this item, i paid the man in full right after the auction was complete and I was notified I was the winner.

The seller in turn messaged me to say he did not ship to Canada and in turn i replied right away that yes I was in Canada but along with my full payment he would see that I had sip to addy in Detroit. I also add if he had any questions i was available to answer at any time.

15 min later i received a message that this person refunded my money and awarded the item to a lesser bid. Kind of defeats the whole idea of a auction and the fact that by posting an item on this site and by me bidding and paying for the item constitutes a legal contract.
Which this person is in breach of.

Also contacted ebay and they will do nothing about this. Also the site wont let me put a rating on this person for follow up. People need to beware of ebay and understand they won't help with issues when they arise only want to take money from sellers.

You're canadian, he doesn't ship to Canada. As you said, this was clearly stated in the description.

You paid through Paypal with a confirmed canadian address. For seller and buyers protection program, he must ship to the Paypal confirmed address, which I guess, is your canadian one.

He contacted you, and immediately refunded you. He gave you back your money.

I don't see any problems or rip off on this situation.

Read and learn eBay rules before bidding.

I agree. You can not fault Ebay or the seller, as they did everything by the book. You made way too assumptions, in the future I would suggest contacting the seller before the auctions end. Ask them if they will ship to your alternate address. It is very unfair to publicly bash a seller for your lack of knowledge on how Ebay works.

I disagree:  The seller is clearly at fault.

If an American seller does not ship to Canada then it up to the seller........... and not the buyer........... to make sure that only those buyers who reside in countries he/she opts to ship to are blocked.

That is, your bid was accepted and so the seller is obligated to complete the transaction.

You even went one step further than necessary and offered an American address.

I totally disagree - as said before Seller does NOT ship to Canada........that would make me move on pronto - that's the Sellers choice.  If the OP was so desperate to have the item.......he should have messaged the Seller asking him if he could ship in this instance BEFORE starting to bid.  That's so obvious.

Yes, OP MUST familiarize yourself on ebay and any site before bidding or just purchasing by BIN.  Read, Read and more Read - and still have questions?  No prob. just message Seller.

OP has been so unfair to the Seller who knows the score and refunded quickly - THERE'S NO PROBLEM!  Well, yes, there IS a problem - you have "named and shamed" the Seller, which you are not allowed to do on the Boards - they are moderated and don't know why the name is still here.

Take Note OP of all the messages here - you'll know what to do the next time.

Re: BEWARE of seller - I was RIPPED OFF by

How is that possible when the seller did not offer shipping to Canada. The buyer lives in Canada.... right? Buyer pays by Paypal so the item must be shipped to your PAYPAL CONFIRMED address.... right?  Buyer got their money back so they were not "ripped off". A person can not just bid on an item without checking the sellers terms, and then become irate because they did not read the sellers terms and also Ebay and Paypal policy. With that logic, even if a country is on my exclusion list, I should be obligated to ship there if someone from that country wants my item???? Take a little personal responsibility on this one, take a breath and move on.

....... and i 100% totally disagree that it's a buyers responsibility to make sure that the transaction proceeds as the seller wishes.

There is no requirement that buyers must read the listing from start to finish, and even if they do and still opt to purchase that is allowed by the Powers That Be.

In addition: There are scads of sellers who say they only ship in the States and don't mean a word of it so it's no wonder buyers don't take them seriously.

It's up to sellers to take control of their own listings.  Not buyers.

Sellers are give the option of blocking unwelcome buyers.  Blaming buyers for their failure to do so makes no sense.

Once the purchase is made, it's a binding agreement.

On the other sites where I also buy, if a seller does not ship out of the States the buyer cannot purchase the item.

If the buyer wants to purchase then the buyer has to contact the seller first and get the go ahead.

It's simple.  VERY simple.

One has to wonder why eBay allows buyers to buy from sellers who claim they do not want their business (but usually do).

It's not the buyer's problem or responsibility, or mistake when a purchase is made from a seller who prefers not to ship out of the US (or wherever).

It's a problem with the way the system is set up in conjunction with sellers who do not block unwanted buyers.

I wonder why the mods keep this seller's name on this thread for so long, had this been a bad seller doing wrong it would have been edited by now.

Any how,my recommendation to the OP  (as a few already mentioned) is ,if you shop on ebay dot com, it is prudent to contact the US seller to make him/her aware that you are planning on bidding or buying their item, make them aware that you have a shipping address in the US then they will consider you as a potential buyer.

You did this the other way around and set yourself up for a disappointment.

Re: BEWARE of seller - I was RIPPED OFF by

Perhaps there is a different approach available.  PayPal profile has options for additional addresses.  I added an address there when I wanted to purchase something as a gift and have it sent directly to the recipient.  This worked for me for that purchase, and later I deleted the address from my PayPal account.  The primary PayPal address has a note that it is "confirmed".  Why not contact PayPal to find out if you can list your US address and have it confirmed?  If so, then ask if you have to go in to your PayPal account and change it to the "primary" address when you want purchases shipped there?.

To be clear to everyone here that are defending this guy. Yes i live in Canada. Yes i bid on an item that inly ships to the us. I filked out the paypal payment with a bill to address as well as a ship to address which i might add is in Detroit and last i checked was still part of the good ole US of A. The seller contacted me and I responded that the ship to address was in fact in the us so he was aware of this before he refunded my money. At no time did i request jim to ship outside of the US and at no point did his add state that he inly sells to US residents. How am i the one that is in the wrong here.

Re: BEWARE of seller - I was RIPPED OFF by

I'm just wondering why you didn't contact the seller prior to placing your bid.  A seller who states in the listing description that they don't ship internationally but who hasn't set their buyer requirements to reflect this strikes me as being potentially troublesome to deal with.

I'm also wondering why you feel you were "ripped off" when the seller returned your money.

I did not contact the seller prior as it is common practice as I live on a boareer city that there has never been an issue for me having itmes purchased else where shipoed to my USA addy. This is common practice for Canadians on boarder cities. Alsoi feel I was ripoed off as i put the time in watching this item and the time to hid and even the time to pay for the item in full. This was an item that i followrd the rules to bid on and purchase amd this smuck just recides to change his mind and not sell to me because i am canadian. Also who is to say thay he sold it to the other bidder maybe he just decided I didnt get as much as I had hooed and forgot to put a reserve on the item so screw it i am keeping it. I am in the business of dealing with contracts on a daiky basis and if I were to conduct business as this person that Iam not allowed to shame as ebau forbirs me posting anytjing bad about a seller i woild not have a job. It was a good item thay I bid on and followed tje rules to get. The item should be on its way here.

"as it is common practice"

I understand you are new on eBay and may not fully understand what "common practice" is here. It has nothing to do with a seller refusing to sell because you are Canadian.  It has to do with the loss of protection given by PayPal to the seller.

The problem arises when a buyer is registered in a country and ask the seller to ship to another country.

The proximity of Windsor and Detroit is not a factor when it comes to seller protection, more so for an expensive item.

You were not ripped off.  You got your money back.

In future, if using eBay, I suggest you search on eBay.ca - where "stuff" is available to be shipped to a Canadian address.

If shopping on eBay.com and coming across an item where the seller indicates "shipping to USA only", it would be preferable to contact the seller prior to placing a bid or clicking on the "Buy-it-Now" icon, explaining you would like the item shipped to an alternative address in the USA.  Some may go along with it, some will not.

And life does go on.

Not sure what protection was required to the seller asthe item was paid in full throuhh paypal and confirmed. He recieved his money. Maybe in the future sellars shoild post that we do not want to do business witj canadians. I see postings on ebay from all over the world and people all over the world ourchase items every day. I personally believe this guy scammed me because he didnt get what he thought he woild get for the item. Sorry for the typos hard to type on a phone.

"He recieved his money."

However, should a buyer make a claim of non-receipt (or damaged or not as described"), PayPal would immediately take the money back from the seller unless he is covered by the PayPal Protection policy.

Unfortunately, a lot of buyers abuse the program forcing many sellers to insist in being protected before shipping the goods.  Being paid by PayPal does not mean a thing if unprotected.
