Best Offer Price??

I miss it a lot.................

Some very rare high end items are sold almost exclusively via Best Offer and the asking price means very little.

Knowing what other sellers accepted helped me decide what to accept when I received an offer.

When it disappeared from .com...........  (how long ago was that?  I know it's been months.).......... I'd go to .ca, but then two weeks ago it was gone from the Canadian site too.

First thing I did was check out the UK site......... gone from there too.

I wish I could see it like you do.

"I wish I could see it like you do."

You can.  Everyone willing to do a bit of work can.

Then I misunderstood.

As I've been saying, I've been trying other sites (UK, Australia) for several weeks and it hasn't worked for me yet.

What am I missing?

Best Offer Price??

Went to a car lot today. They had a car listed for $23,500 . But in the other window they have sold 3 others so far. 1 with an offer of $19,500 ,1 for an offer of $20,000 and some idiot offered them full price after seeing full well that they had already accepted an offer of $19,500 for one.

not missing anything--ebay has said it was a "glitch" in the system and is being corrected.

No, steven......... it doesn't seem to be a glitch.

It's just that it wasn't explained.  There was only a link.  ( I guess some people like a little mystery (or whatever that was???).)

It was all French to me.

It seems that the eBay France site still posts "Sold For" prices.

Unless you actually know that the asking price was higher than the sold for price, the link doesn't have meaning without an explanation to go with it.

In any case, the selling price is there and hopefully they don't alter that.

Perhaps they won't because the entire way they've presented the process is not the same as the English speaking sites I checked out.

So does eBay Italia, etc...

Yes, and Spain does as well....................

It seems that some sites do, but some of the non-English sites don't.

In any event it's good information to have and I thank you for posting it.  🙂

So I guess the emails I got from ebay staff saying it was a glitch that they were fixing was lie ???

OK

"So I guess the emails I got from ebay staff saying it was a glitch that they were fixing was lie ???"

A lie?

No.

Just the wrong information.

I do not understand why some posters insist in using words such as "lies" which imply an intent to deceive. Just a mistake by poorly trained employees. It is a daily occurence on eBay and just about everywhere else.

In fact the staff yesterday was pretty clear about it.  It was not a glitch but a change of policy and it takes some time to be implemented resulting in some sites having information based on the old policy and some on the new policy.  There is no "lie" here..

steven, maybe you're right and they will be putting the selling price back on the .com and .ca completed listings.

I don't know.

They've been gone from the US site for a long time and if they're fixing it they're taking their sweet time to do so.

One of the ebay staffers who posts here suggested it wasn't a mistake, but they've been known to be incorrect sometimes............

Too many rules to know em all I guess.

Did eBay really correspond with you personally about this?

And numerous times to boot..............

Man, I can't get anything more that some unrelated computer driven nonsense when I email them.

I think you must be much important than I am....... :).

Did eBay really correspond with you personally about this

Yes they did. As a seller who has used best offer in the past the fact that what I was accepting for an offer NOT being available to just anybody that wants to know is important to me. Just like car dealers don't tell you what they have accepted for OFFERS in the past.

It's just BAD BUSINESS!!!

go to a car dealer and he will give you a price IF you then tell him you are buying 15 of the same cars from him he will then give you another price. Is it fair that the person  buying just the one car should know that he gave you the car that much cheaper? there is  factor there that he got them cheaper because he bought 15 but "most" people do not see that part they only see "he sold it to the other guy cheaper than me"

On EBAY there are other factors such as "free" shipping (being pushed by ebay) that can have a real effect on your bottom line. If I sell 1 item (with free shipping) my cost might be $1 per widget meaning I have to get $2 for each one howewver if I sell 15 and thus can save on shipping I can now sell it for $1.50 and make the exact same profit margin.

Do you actually think that the person who just paid $2 and then see's you sold it to the next guy for $1.50 BEFORE he leaves feedback is going to leave positive feedback? How is he going to feel on DSR's . These are just examples what if the items are now $200 and $150 or $2000 and $1500 when we start talking real discounts.

What the heck is the use of putting or best offer if everybody then knows exactly what you will sell it for? Why not just find his "lowest" that he has accepted and start at 50% below that? you do get 3 attempts at your 'BEST" offer

Steven, you and I agree about seeing the Best Offer price accepted......

I like to see it.

You don't.

But that wasn't the issue and doesn't matter anyway.

You posted that the fact that we can't see the BO price accepted on .ca, .com, and some other sites at this time is an ebay glitch which will be repaired.

Is that what they stated in their email to you?

Message 54 of 62

that is what was stated to me--it is a glitch in the system and they were not aware that accepted "offers" were being shown and they are trying to fix it as they do not want people to know what might or might not have been accepted as an "offer".

You have that reversed.

Accepted offers have "Always" been shown on .com and .ca until a few months ago on .com and a couple of weeks ago .ca

They are well aware of that.

If it's a glitch at all it's the other way around.

they NEVER wanted them showing and were NOT aware they were showing as when I first started selling using it I asked them that very question and it was confirmed to me at that time that they would NOT be showing what was offered and accepted for an item and I did some searching at that time and did not find anything other than 'best offer accepted'

So, according to you Steve:   This has been an ongoing error in the way listings have been displayed during the past decade or so?

Seriously?

You actually believe that?

Message 59 of 62

Best Offer Price??

There are three points-of-view:

The seller who regularly offers "Best Offer" would prefer not to disclose the actual selling price

The seller who does not offer "Best Offer" would like to see the actual selling price to help determine what the market price is

Buyers would prefer to see an actual selling price so they can determine how much to offer or bid on for similar items.

Then, you have the problem of eBay sometimes giving the wrong information.  For example: 171020712724

According to the listing, the Buy-it-Now Pirce was: US$ 285.00

According to the feedback received by the seller, the selling price was US$ 220.00

However, the actual selling price according to many eBay international sites was US$ 185.00

Good Luck to anyone trying to make sense of it all.  I can't.
