Ok all honesty here i am totally new to selling. Buying i have done but not selling. I posted an item(my first) and then after a week and the post ended i was contacted and offered an amount. A very fair amount as well. Since the post is over do i have to relist it for this person to buy or is there another way i can keep myself protected as well as the buyer? Just not sure what to do. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

The easiest way to handle the situation is to relist the item with a fixed price (the price offered by the potential buyer) instead of using the auction format.
As soon as listed, advise the potential buyer of the listing number or provide him a link to the listing so he can buy it immediately and pay for it.
Good Luck.

It is your personal item to whatever you want to do with it. Why are you asking us?
Send a request for moeny. Buyer pays. You ship.
Protected from what? This is a private transaction such as on Kijiji.

The official eBay policy: http://pages.ebay.ca/help/policies/rfe-spam-non-ebay-sale.html

Why does eBay have this policy?
Offers to buy or sell outside of eBay are a potential fraud risk for both buyers and sellers, and are not protected by eBay protection programs.
Additionally, these offers may be an attempt to avoid eBay fees. This is unfair to other sellers and violates our policies.

The potential buyer contacted the seller after seeing the listing on eBay. eBay did the work to advertise the listings and as such is entitled to its commission (FVF)
Situation is similar to a buyer contacting a house seller after the 90 day contract with real estate agent is over. The seller is still liable for the commission if the buyer was made aware of the house for sale by an advertisement by the agent.

Pierre is absolutely correct and the analogy is accurate. I would also add that not only does such activity take a free ride on the listing advertising provided by eBay, but it also takes advantage of the initial contact between buyer and seller created by the eBay site. This is comparable to many other commercial agency relationships.
